Prime Cattle (under 30 mos)
Ralph Pearson Wholesale butchers accounted for the leading prices in the beef section purchasing the leading grossed priced steer and heifer. Top price at £1584 was achieved by JW Stockdale&Son of Burnsall when selling a 620kg Limousin cross heifer for 255.5p/kg to the Bradford wholesaler along with the leading steer a 645kg Limousin from CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield which made £1583 or 245.5p/kg. Pearsons were also purchasers of the leading steer and heifer by weight with the steer a 560kg British Blue cross from John Stephenson of Bordley at 259.5p/kg or £1453 and the heifer from Mesrs Kitching a Limousin cross weighing 580kg at 258.5p/kg or £1499. Trade was good, similar to last week and not quite as strong as the pre-Christmas trade. Amongst the handier weighted cattle James Robertshaw accounted for the second leading priced steer a 555kg Limousin from RT&J Critchley&Son of Hutton which made 256.5p/kg or £1424 for sale in Robertshaws Farm Shop, Thornton.

Cull Cow Prices
Cows have had a nice lift since the New Year. Fed top end dairies are 125p to 135.5p with equivalent Other Breed dairies 137.5p/kg for Norwegian red crosses or 134.5p/kg for Montbelliarde crosses and £1000 now a realistic target. At the leaner end of the entry, youth continues to sell well with young cows to feed 120p and steakers up to 117p/kg. A heavy cast bull, a Beef Shorthorn tipped the scales at 1505kg and made 98.5p/kg or £1482.

A much better entry of sheep today with 3,34 head forward comprising 2927 lambs and 422 ewes.
Lambs were up several more notches today, with the overall average standing at 273p or £116.98 per head with all classes a tremendous trade attracting additional buyers to the ringside.
Mule and Masham Wethers were generally around 250p/260p for nice handy weights, heavier sorts adding up to either side of £120. A handful of typical prices at various weights seen on the day include JL Pate 40kg £106.50 and £106. J Baines 45kg £117. JC Drewery 50kg £122.50. AJ Taylor 49kg £120.50, 59kg £129 and 44kg £115.50. SR Dorey 41kg £112, 43kg £111.50, 41kg £107, 38kg £99.50. M Ryder & Son 52kg £123.50, 48kg £121.50. CD&RF Kitching 43kg £120.50. HL Kitching 45kg £115. S Terry 39kg £103.50.
Other hill bred lambs were dearer as well, light weight horned lambs 220p to 240p, better prime horned lambs 240/250p. Including Ellis Bros 52kg £115, SR Dorey 35kg £88, Fairplace 36kg £89, FG Throup 32kg £81, 41kg £104.50, K Huck 39kg £98, D&S Hollins 34kg £84.50, W&M Bland 34kg £87.
Cheviot Lambs were a superb trade, SR Dorey 43kg £118.50, A&K Kiernan 44kg £129, 46kg £130.
Lowland Lambs over 52kg – Heaviest lambs were a cracking trade, mainly in the £120’s and £130’s or 220p to 250p, top price in the section going to DN&D Capstick of Bolton by Bowland when selling Continentals at £143 per head to Paul Watson.
46kg to 52kg Lowland Lambs – Not the same proportion of smart butchers lambs in this range this week, but some excellent prices. RD Riley, Malhamdale took the top two prices at £154 and £152 selling to Knavesmire Butchers and A Atkinson respectively. Knavesmire took the next two pens on the list, both at £146 from DN&D Capstick and D&A Livestock. H Atkinson made £145 of smart Beltex, and Colin Doney £144 selling to Hartshead Meats.
36kg to 45kg Lowland Lambs : In the main weight range, Ellis Bros sold at £150 (333p) and £148 (344p) to A Atkinson and Vivers Scotlamb. W&J Parkinson sold a tremendous lot at £148 also to Vivers Scotlamb, this being 370p/kg, a price Messrs Parkinson made again when selling 37kg lambs at £137 to Knavesmire Butchers. Kevin Marshall made 361p and Fox Farms 355p. A good list of lambs making £130 plus and £3kilo plus in this range today.
32kg to 35kg Lowland Lambs – Top kilo price on the day came from this weight range, when D&A Livestock sold 34kg Beltex at £130 or 382p kilo to Knavesmire. HL Kitching sold 34kg at £115, D&A Livestock 35kg £100 and GT Booth 34kg at £100. Continental lambs in this range averaged 276p.
Ewes - Trade up a gear for all classes 422 in the entry and 2 extra buyers ringside. Mules came to an average of £91. Heavy Mule ewes all £100+ up to £114.50 from J Sugden. Meat ewes all £85-£92 and lean end £75-£80 with plain ewes in the £55-£65 range. Mashams sold to £108.50. Continental ewes well sort after Best end pure bred ewes £150+ with a top price of £163.50 from FC Wade & Son. Beltex ewes sold to £145.50 from AM & HV Brown. Large ewes full meat £120+, Heavy crossed ewes £130-£145 with good meat ewes still with plenty of weight £110-£120. Medium ewes £100-£115. Lean meat £85-£95 and Plain end ewes in the £60-£75. Plain ewes below the price. Suffolks to £137.50 ML Evans. Hill bred ewes in more demand for all classes. Lonks to £80.50 for some mediums. Pen of South country Cheviots from W+M Bland sold to £79.50 with a pen of heavier ewes from SW&JE Ryder at £87.50. Swales sold to £72.50 for some good meat large ewes from J&K Harker. Swales generally £65+ for best end meat ewes. £60+ for next grade. Lean ewes £45-£55 and plain £25+. 20 Texel tups sold today with mediums on fire. Best end tups with weight £140-£147.50. BFL Tups sold to £157.50 from JH Throup.

Small entry of calves with trade buoyant. Blue bulls averaged £318 with best Blue bulls £350-£370 Mediums either side of £300 smalls £170-£240 depending on conformation. Black and White bulls £130 for a good rearing sort from AP Townsend. Lim bulls sold well with buyers out for the quality end. £320-£350 for best end. Blue heifers sold to a range of buyers buying to a price with range mainly between £240-£280 with some smalls either side of £200.
