3,468 Prime Sheep comprising 2246 Spring Lambs, 91 Hoggs & 1131 Cast Ewes & Rams
A very similar show of sheep for numbers met a solid trade on the day with a full ringside of buyers present right to the end, and probably trade rising a little as the sale went progressed.
Chief prices went to first time vendors Messrs RC Reed & Sons of Bielby, York who sold a good consignment of generally heavier lambs. Sale leaders were a pen of 5 Continental crosses weighing 52kg selling at £145 going to Swaledale Foods of Skipton, the same vendor also achieving £143 and £138.
Skipton Regulars Tom Hill & Ruby Wright from Doncaster made £144 to Kendalls Farm Butchers.
Mark Evans of Steeton made £142.50 £141.50 and £139.50 twice of heavy lambs.
Amy Beresford of Halton West made £142, whilst James & Deborah Ogden of Austwick also topped their run at £142 and M&R Smith Winterburn made £141.
Per kilo prices were headed up by Ellis Bros of Addingham Moorside selling lambs at £139 or 323p for 43kg. Others from this home were 322p 307p and 297p all to Hartshead Meats in Mossley.
Haddon Farms in Meltham Huddersfield made 314p (43kg £135)
KH&JL Huck of Bordley were next inline at 305p (45kg £137p) and P Crabtree & Son of Otley made 302p (41kg at £124).
Other smart lambs could command 260p to 300p, a middle of the lamb was generally around 250p, and commercial lambs were a decent trade in relation to these by making 235p/245p.
More and more pens of Mule Wethers and lightweight Continentals each week, but a competitive ringside keeps trade for these very sparkey and good to sell.
Another large show of over 1,100 Cast Ewes & Rams with trade holding firm again with meat, heavies and medium ewes full fleshes and 3/4 meat ewes staying very similar! Horned ewes in general less money with only the heavy horned ewes selling to premium prices. Mediums and heavy mules both good to sell! Mules avg £95 with heavies £105-£130 mediums £88-£100 lean ewes £70-£80.
Texels good to sell with mediums with style a very nice trade. Trade topped at £179.50 from Richard Wilson, Harrogate. Heavy first cross ewes with style aswell £135-£158. First cross ewes with too much fat rather than solid flesh £130’s. Medium first cross ewes £95-£105 for 3/4 meat with full flesh £105-£118. Lean ewes £75-£88. Overall white faced ewe avg £107.
141 Swales forward £106.50 top price for a heavy ewe from ML&JE Kayley & Son, Halton West. Big strong full fleshed ewes £78+ mediums full meat £52+ and mediums with half to 3/4 meat ewes having a fall in trade around the £38-£48 range.
