Heavy dairies were 125p, Steaking cows 115p and the plain cows still 80 to 85p/kg. Beef cows benefitted from more meat and a similar trade with a good proportion of the entry not farm assured.

3,383 Prime Sheep comprising 2978 Prime Lambs & 405 Cast Ewes & Rams
Just shy of 3000 lambs penned today, but an excellent trade for all classes as the sale recorded an average of 244.7p/kg or £110.77 per head.
Retail and quality wholesale lambs were again a fast trade, with Messrs James Garth & Son of Keasden, Clapham topping the sale at £166 to Knavesmire Butchers in York. Messrs Garth sold others at £161 and £157, whilst also taking the top kilo price of 365.9p/kg.
N&AD Boynton of Ripon were next in line at £161 and £157 or 362p 358 and 351p with a good run of Beltex crosses.
EP&JM Hutchinson of Faceby, Cleveland are never far away, and reached £157 and £155.50 or 361.6p/kg again with Beltex crosses.
Weekly vendors Ellis Bros of Addingham Moorside again got in on the top prices making £155 or 352p of 44kg, whilst Hayley Baines topped at £154, R Emmott £151 and Ellis Bros again at £150.
The heavy lambs today were up 8p/kg on average, around £5 to £6 per head
Mule Lambs generally 220p to 230p topping at 237p form Ellis Bros.
Horned lambs either side of 200p.
Fed lambs are receiving the premiums, and there are some very useful premiums for well fed types, whilst a handy grass fed lamb has a useful store trade to back it up, but generally a shortage of 37kg to 40kg Continentals means anything with a good rub of meat is selling away nicely, shown by the 36kg to 45kg averaging 247.5p, some 3p above Mart average.

Ewes traded slightly less today with less plain about but a nice show of meated ewes in but yet again ewes short of weight forward. Best white headed £140-£160.50. Heavy crossed ewes £120-£140. Nice selling mediums £95-£115, Lean ewes £75-£88 and plain feeding ewes £45-£65. Mule ewes sold less money but less size about in general. Biggest ewes forward on the day £80-£90 mediums £70-£78 and smalls/ lean ewes £60-£72 depending on size. Good meat horned ewes sold well again £58-£74.50 with mediums £40-£55 and not many plain ewes about with lowest price horned ewe being £29.50.
Meat ewes needed with only 405 ewes in today.
