Prime Sheep

Lambs – A few less lambs about today following some busy weeks, but trade was excellent from start to finish, with well fleshed handy weights in very good demand seeing the commercial end probably the trade of the day, the mediums were a similar trade, and heavies remain short of requirements.
JP&KE Hartley from Beamsley took top price per head when selling Continentals at £140 per head or 325p/kg to Knavesmire Butchers of York. The same purchasers secured lambs at £139.50 (303p) from Hill & Wright of Doncaster, £138 from B Spensley Ltd of Thorlby, and also the top price per kilo at 331p or £136 from S&P Scrivin of Elslack.
Swaledale Foods of Skipton secured lambs at £138 on two occasions, those being from TH Mellin of Black Lane Ends and then from J&F Nutter of Hurst Green.
Beltex and best ¾ bred Texels generally 270p to 310p, and commercial handy weights 255p to 270p. Mediums mostly around 250p, and heavies 240p to 270p depending on quality.
Nearly 200 Mule Wethers forward were an excellent trade, mainly 240p to 250p, topping 252p from CM Ryder, Blubberhouses and £113 from AJ Shepherd. Mule Wethers averaged £101.55 or 244p, an excellent trade and worthy of note for vendors considering early weaning.

Cull Ewes – Ewes dearer again on the week. 2 fresh faces ringside and Less numbers with only 518 forward. No monster pure bred heavy ewes in. More heavy ewes required every week.
