Bradford wholesalers Ralph Pearson made it a clean sweep across the leading prices which on the selling side was matched by CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield. Messrs Kitching sold the days leading gross at £1741, a Limousin cross steer weight 625kg at 278.5p/kg alongside the leading heifer a 605kg Limousin cross at £1661 or 274.5p/kg whilst Paul Baines of Gisburn headed the p/kg prices at 293.5p/kg or £1585 with a 540kg British Blue cross heifer, and F&B Smith, Masongill secured the steer highlight at 288.5p/kg with a 580kg Limousin cross (£1673) with all 4 purchased by Robert Pearson. An entry of 5 Belted Galloways from Tom Boothman at Linton topped at 230p/kg for 230/kg for 580kg heifers and 210p/kg for 620kg steers, which qualifies the slightly lower average reported.

Cull Cow Prices
Cows are an easier trade reflecting a falling factory price but an open Autumn is keeping numbers coming forward in an orderly fashion and its likely that numbers will tighten once all cattle are housed. Good Dairies are 135p+ and the next grade down 120-130p. Plain and lean cows 95p to 115p/kg. Heavy Angus cows to 146.5p.

Prime Sheep
Lambs a much larger show today with over 3000 head sold, and they were seen to be easier in price on the week, but not as far back as reported by some other centres, with an overall average of 220.69p/kg being recorded.
At the top end of the scale, Messrs D&F Clarkson of Tadcaster took lead price per kilo when their pen of Beltex crosses made £165, 45kg at 366p. Ellis Bros of Addingham Moorside presented Continental crosses that made 359p (42kg at £151) and 351p (45kg £158). N&AD Boynton of Ripon were at 355p (45kg £160). HB Atkinson, Kettlesing made 337p, Whilst P Crabtree & Son of Otley topped their nice run at 320p. Others in the £140 plus bracket were PA&NS Tattersall of York, J Barnes (Farming) Ltd of Clitheroe, and A&K Kiernan of Preston.
Heavier commercial lambs were harder to place than of late, but commercial handy lambs were only a couple of pounds a head cheaper on the week. Well fleshed handy weights were probably about as good as anything to sell today with these proving short of buyers requirement son the day.
Within today’s sale was a lamb that was sold several times for charity. Paul Watson purchased a lamb during the sale and immediately offered it back up for sale with all the proceeds going in aid of Manorlands Hospice at Oxenhope, a charity close to Paul and his family. Andrew Atkinson, Paul Bartholomew, Gerald Medcalf and Nick Dalby, all kindly bought the lamb and again re offered it for sale when it finally finished up with Will Rathmell. The total raised for Manorlands was £860.00, well done to all involved.
Ewes very similar on the week even though some center’s reporting a drop in trade, all types selling to a strong ringside of buyers all actively competing. Mule’s ewes £95-£108 for strong full meat types with some very fit large ewes reaching £115.50. Lean mules £70-£80 and plain £48-£60. White Faced ewes selling very well with best bred ewes and size £140-£155.50 for smart sorts and heavy first crossed ewes. Full meat mediums £110-£120, half to ¾ meat mediums £88-105 depending on size, lean ewes £74-£88 Plain white-faced ewes £55-£70. Swale ewes £20-£30 for plain and half meat ewes, £34-£44 for ¾ meat ewes and £55-£60 for full meat ewes.
More ewes required with buyers looking for all classes. Plenty of orders ringside for feeding jobs now as well.
