3,538 Prime Sheep comprising 3164 Spring Lambs & 374 Cast Ewes & Rams

The largest entry of the season so far with 3164 lambs penned for sale, and a grand trade right through. Heavy lambs were keenly contested today, with all lambs 45kg and heavier averaging 263p. In the lump, it was heavy lambs taking the top prices, £170 was achieved by Mark Crabtree, Kettlesing selling to Hartshead Meat Co, Mossley.
WH Marsden of Leeds was next in line with Texels at £153, also going to Hartshead Meat Co. Mr Marsden also made £148 and £144 of Texels.
M Ryder & Son from Haverah Park sold lambs to £150 on two occasions. N&AD Boynton of Ripon were also at £148 and £146 for Texel Beltex crosses, JL North of Giggleswick made £146.50,  KP Drinkall of Gargrave £145 and JP Barnes Clitheroe made £144.50. A lot of nice heavies £130 plus.

Per kilo, leading price was 325p (45kg £148) form N&AD Boynton of Ripon, selling to Vivers Scotlamb. Mr Boynton also made 310p (£144) and 304p (£140) with Hartshead Meats taking both pens.
KG&JL Huck of Bordley were next in line at 318p and 317p, again both pens heading to Vivers Scotlamb.
Others at 00p plus were WH Marsden of Leeds at 302p and P Crabtree & Son Otley at 300p.

Handyweight and lightweight lambs found an excellent enquiry, especially 33kg to 36kg well fleshed, 250p/270p or £88 to £95 a common price range for nice sorts, 245p for anything a bit more commercial.
The lambs either side of 40kg were a similar story 250p to 270p for the nice prime sorts with good backs, anything a touch leaner commercial types around 245p.

Just a fair entry of housed pet lambs in today with a few large runs of lambs machine reared on milk and hard feed, but like the grass lambs, they sold well if presented in good condition.

Mule Wethers again making their mark, main of the entry weighing 37kg to 42kg, best end nicely reaching three figures with Joe Throup Berwick Intake making £101 and Jeff Throup Snowhill making £100, and in the main all looking nicely sold for young lambs from the hill.
