Prime Cattle (under 30 mos)
Trade for clean cattle continues at pace with quality beef animals continuing to nudge 300p/kg. Bradford wholesalers Ralph Pearson accounted for the leading gross prices in each section both entries from CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield, the steer a Limousin weighing 680kg at £1921 or 282.5p/kg and the heifer a 625kg Limousin at £1834 or 293.5p/kg. Mers Pearson also gathered up the leading price per kg steer a 545kg British Blue cross from RT&J Critchley&Son of Hutton at 309.5p/kg or £1687 whilst the leading priced heifer at 295.5p/kg was a 560kg Limousin sold by Simon Bennett of Silsden Moor to Robertshaws Farm Shop, Thornton and Harrogate. It’s likely that demand for clean cattle will continue next week and vendors should advise of likely numbers.

3,924 Prime Sheep comprising 3179 Prime Lambs & 745 Cast Ewes & Rams
Another excellent trade this week, probably dearer than we were anticipating after last weeks bonanza, the quality forward varying quite a bit throughout the sale, but 289p overall or £126.73 per head representing a very acceptable result on the day.
Hill bred lambs making up an increasing proportion of the sale as Autumn turns in to Winter, and it was Mike Allen of Staithes near Whitby who led the Mule Wethers at £136 this week with others from the same home at £132, Messrs JA Stoney & Son of Bewerley, Pateley Bridge were next in line at £135.50, Ellis Bros of Addingham Moorside £133 and Paul Baines of Little Middop, Gisburn made £132.50.
Per kilo wise it was a nice run of handier weighted wethers from CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield that led the way at 293p 288p 286p, and Paul Baines’s lambs were 281.9p. The better wethers on the day generally in the 270’s. Steve Dorey of Newark made £122 or 277p/kg of Masham Wethers.
Horned Wethers peaked £120 from S&P Scrivin of Elslack and £115 from Kevin Huck of Bordley and also from J Pate of Gisburn. Phil Stubbs of Crowton, Cheshire topped the Cheviots at £121. Heavy Blue Faced Leicesters got to £154 from A&G Bland of Mottram, Glossop.
The smart lambs were very good to sell this week, David & Karen Shuttleworth trading as Heber Park Beltex in Gargrave topped the sale at £177, with others at £166.
Henry Atkinson topped a run at £175 for smart Beltex, others at £171.
Messrs Boynton of Ripon had some excellent lambs at £173 and £170.
Paul Simpson of Bolton by Bowland made £172 and £168 twice of quality fed white faced lambs.
Ellis Bros, Addingham Moorside topped at £170.
Plenty of other smart types and heavies getting into the £160’s.
Per kilo wise the Beltex breed averaged 323p/kg, Mike Davis of Ravenshaw at Eldroth taking top price spot at 383p. Messsr Ireland of Whalley were in at 376p, with another 3 pens form this good home making 360p or more. Haddon Farms of Huddersfield topped a good consignment of sheep at 375p/kg, Ellis Bros 367p, and WA,VJ&JA Towler of Grindleton 358p. Other quality sorts 310p to 350p.
Ewes - Good solid trade again with some sections dearer on the week and others trading similar! Mule ewes traded much dearer with weight taking a much higher rise than other grades. Mules sold to £147.50 from David & Karen Shuttleworth of Gargrave with plenty of weight £120-£147.50 mediums sold at £95-£110 and lean ewes £75-£85 with some plain goods £40-£60.
