Skipton Auction Mart launches 2022 pedigree beef season With lambing on lowland farms across Craven now complete, though the lambing season on hill farms remains in full swing, activity at Skipton Auction Mart is on the increase with the launch this week of the 2022 pedigree beef season.

It began yesterday with the traditional ‘Blue Wednesday’ opener, the annual pedigree British Blue show and sale, with the 16-strong catalogue entry comprising 13 bulls and a trio of females from well-known breeders across the region and further afield. A report will appear on next week’s Herald farming pages,
Next up on Wednesday, May 4, is the annual native cattle show and sale for Aberdeen-Angus, Hereford and others, which has a catalogued entry of 12, comprising five bulls and six females, with show classes for both from 11.30 am, ahead of the 12 noon sale. The fixture, which as usual offers cattle suitable for pedigree, commercial, beef and dairy herds, again includes a special sale of native store cattle.
Then it’s on to the high profile Craven Limousin double header, on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 10 & 11, with the highly popular show-only Northern Limousin Extravaganza for 2021-born breed youngsters gaining their first experience of the exhibition arena making a welcome return on the Tuesday, with judging from 2.30pm.
The afternoon also provides an opportunity for pre-sale viewing ahead of the following day’s Craven Limousin highlight, the keynote Spring show and sale of pedigree Limousin bulls and females. Both this premier breed fixture and the Northern Limousin Extravaganza are again supported by North East Limousin Breeders Club.
The curtain on this year’s pedigree beef season falls on Wednesday, May 25, with the Lingfields Beef Cattle Fair, the annual multi-breed show and sale for pedigree beef breeding cattle, with show classes for halter-led bulls and females.
