Feeding Bulls – trade searching new levels with 13 bulls from an entry of 71 at £1500 or more. The top 10 limousin bulls averaged £1582. Age made little difference with the top price of £1700 a 15 month old Limousin from Ashfield Farms. A very good run of sire identified Angus bulls bred from Continental cows spring born 2020 for the most part from MJ&JD Handley met an excellent trade topping at £1590. Similar trade for Herefords where a may 20 bull made £1520 from Miss H Whittaker. Feeders are very keen to keep pens at capacity and its worth looking through Autumn Calves if strong enough to retain the interest.

Feeding Cows – cows remain a very good trade. A good %of the entry first cross cows which if heavy were £1100. The light plain cows £650-£750. Full beef cows £1200 and upwards.

Stores - With fat trade increasing in the live auctions over the last week, purchasers for R & U grade cattle came out in force for short- and long-term beast. A tremendous show of feeding cattle was forward of all grades with trade hot for these. Bullocks peaked at £1750 and £1730 for 2 tremendous Charolais crosses from Messrs Whiteley of Soyland.
N&J Thwaite of Hellifield were next in line with a strong Blue Dairy cross making £1540, whilst large Lim steers from P&E Fox, Clitheroe sold at £1520, and Jeremy Taylor, Broughton also topped £1500.
Other good U grade bullocks with size £1300-£1450. Other 15-month goods £1150-£1240. Grazing bullocks £950-£1100. With a few of the plainer end beast less.
Lim heifers a flyer with 83 forward to avg £1216. Best 17–20 month goods selling regular £1400+ from numerous vendors. J Sheard, Huddersfield sold 6 Lim heifers 18-month-old to £1460 with another 3 at £1450. If cattle match, sell them in batches. Buyers are keen for matching goods in small and large batches sold together. Top price Lim heifer £1570 TH&K Wood, Harrogate and KP Drinkall of Gargrave weighed in at £1510 for Limousins, Messrs Whiteley of Soyland were in the heifer top price charts as well when selling Charolais crosses at £1510, whilst John Stephenson of Bordley achieved £1470. Other Lim heifers with less weight 14 -16-month-old cattle sold around £1150-£1250. Other feeders plainer end £1080-£1140. With a few yearling grazers £880-£1020. Blue heifer and bullocks sold at recent prices with 34 Heifers avg £1156. Feeding suckler beast with age £1345-£1470. Large dairy bred feeders £1160-£1250. Slightly smaller feeders £1080-£1140. Grazers/ 14 month and younger below £1080.
Natives sold well yet again but less strength forward with more yearlings about. Strong feeding bullocks £1200-£1340 with some strong fed bullocks up to £1500 Herefords from N& M Hugill, Hellifield, £1390 for Angus’s from T&A Hird Yockenthwaite, Beef Shorthorn to £1290 from John Lord Littleborough, £1200 for Montbeliard’s from SW Ryder Norwood. Other feeding bullocks slightly short of flesh £1080-£1160. Angus grazing bullocks £780-£900 and grazing heifers £700-£820. Angus feeding heifers £1100+ for large end and £940-£1070 for smaller end of feeders. There were 101 Angus Sired Cattle, 28 Hereford, 10 other Native and 25 Dairy Breeds forward in the entry giving buyers an excellent choice of feeding cattle.
Worth noting the averages today for all classes and all ages of beast, Continental Bullocks £1190, Natives £1028, and Continental Heifers an amazing £1197, Natives £1041. Entries to the Office for the next sale please.
