Opening Sale of 700 Breeding Ewes next Wednesday 28th July in conjunction with 2nd Fortnightly Sale of 6,077 Store Lambs – Catalogue online.
Feeding Bulls – a sale with a varied entry of ages and quality which is normal for the time of year. Still a total of 22 Autumn and early spring born bulls which ranged from £1150 for September born Limousin’s from TH&K Wood and £1090 for January born Limousins from I Barrett & Son. RD Elliott sold under 12 month old Simmental bulls to £1350 and TH&K Wood headed the bulls over 12 months at £1510. Light weight bulls very sought after as the number dry up with nearly all either side of £1000. Trade was very good throughout with a number of buyers unable to make a start.
Feeding Cows – these continue to be a good trade without any exceptional cows in this Wednesday. Best end of the Continentals £1300+ First cross Continentals £1100-£1200 carrying weight and finish. Light lean Continental Cows £800-£950 and amongst the Natives Angus sold to £970 and Shorthorn to £1160. No sign that trade will relent as numbers are tight and the price for finished cows remains very good.
Stores – Store Cattle a flyer especially for the big strong short keep cattle which were fiercely bid for ringside. Strong continentals saw Blonde blks from KP Drinkall, Gargrave sell at £1380 and £1450, and from H Downs & Son, Bingley reaching £1500.
26 Angus blks including some grazers sold to avg £1105. KP Drinkall, Gargrave sold Angus blks to £1490. Other strong feeders £1220-£1300, strong feeders but a shade leaner were £1120-£1180. Grazing Angus £840-£900. Some good runs of strong Blue blks forward from regular vendors. Over 60% of the blue blks on sale sold over £1300. Top price from DT&LA Houseman & Sons, Darley at £1570 for a good strong well fleshed Bullock. Other strong blks with plenty of flesh from £1340-£1440 and the biggest blks £1440-£1510. Feeding blues at 18 month plus £1200-£1300. Buyers out in force for short term cattle with flesh. Blue heifers again meeting firey trade ringside. Big heifers with full flesh £1300-£1335 Feeding heifer £1180-£1260.
Lim blks nicely sold plenty suckler bred goods £1300-£1475 with size and power. Dairy and suckler bred feeding sorts £1100-£1250 size dependent. Other feeders slightly smaller £1040-£1080. Plainer yearling cattle finding a good enquiry, especially with cattle numbers generally tight countrywide.
