Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle; Forward: 514 head of cattle Comprising: 433 Feeding Cattle (75 Young Bulls, 47 Beef Feeding Cows & Bulls, 311 Bullocks & Heifers) & 81 Breeding Cattle.

Feeding Bulls – trade was very good and a similar story of buyers looking to keep pens full whilst there are a few 2020 Spring Bulls available. Bulls between 10-12 months averaged £1326 helped by a pen of high-quality bulls from Andy Rigby of Slaidburn which topped at £1670 whilst under 10 months Limousin cross from same vendor made £1960. T Robinson & Sons, Catlow sold Limousins born in August 2020 at £1350 and October 2020 at £1340. Similar trade reflected in the commercial bulls with all £1100 to £1350.
Feeding bulls urgently required to satisfy demand.

Feeding Cows – a very good trade for feeding cows without any exceptional cattle in the entry. Top price was a 51 month old Angus from J&JA Preston & Son at £1260 followed by a 10 year old Limousin from A&TA Blades at £1250. £1000 and upwards for cattle carrying flesh and no shortage of customers for lean cows.

Stores – Generally a strong trade throughout the stores today, some softer plainer goods just a touch back on the fortnight but in general all cattle selling nicely. Native heifers and steers selling to usual premium prices with steers up to £1270 for large and fit goods from JA&JC Throup, Silsden Moor. In general, large Angus steers £1080-£1130 with fed sorts with more age £1130-£1230. Angus heifers large end sold at £1075-£1195 mediums £900-£980.
Blue bullocks, especially dairy crosses, were fiercely bid for with a top price of £1480 from DT&LA Houseman & Sons, Harrogate. Large meaty goods £1200-£1300 with large harder goods 16-month-old selling at £1160. Mediums either side of £1080. Some smaller end £890-£950 for summering dairy bred goods. Overall blue bullock avg £1201. Blue heifers good to sell again with plenty of competition. Top price of £1330 from JM Ewin-Newhouse, Giggleswick. Large end £1160-£1220 with some ultra-big heavies reaching more. Lim heifers sold well with some grazing types a little less but feeding end very good to sell and retail spec E/U Grades tremendous. Strongest end £1390-£1470 with some Cracking shaped 12-14 month goods reaching £1480 from D&L Coar, Darwen. Good feeding sorts £1100-£1200 with some medium feeders a touch less. Grazing Limousins £950-£1100. Lim bullocks sold to £1305 from A Fawcett, Harrogate with large end again £1220-£1290 with other large goods but leaner just below the mark and mediums £1120-£1160. Black and White bullocks sold to £1050 from KM&L Throup, Silsden Moor. Mediums £830-£900 and grazing Black and Whites £690-£800.

Ashfield Farms brought their opening consignment of cubicle housed heifers with calves at foot selling to a ready audience of regular buyers. Top price in the run was a 2018 born Limousin Heifer with Limousin Bull Calf at Foot at £2100 selling to a regular purchaser of Ashfield Heifers.
Joey & Helen Drinkall attended with their first part dispersal sale of their excellent commercial Angus cows from Anglezarke. The sale represented an opportunity to buy quiet pedigree Angus cows, many with shapey Angus Calves at foot which brought buyers along way to the sale. Trade was solid with a number of outfits just short of £2000 reflecting the interest in Angus cattle at Skipton, Part 2 of the sale in a fortnights time.
