Feeding Bulls – always the case that pre lambing sales result in the marketing of some bulls slighter earlier than usual because of the need to empty pens. Good strong bulls continued to sell well at £1350 to £1500. Medium smart bulls very similar at £1200 to £1300. Small good quality £950 - £100. The very light bulls and cattle short of creep or conformation a little harder to place with a larger proportion in the entry and the sale average of £1114 against £1221 at the last sale a reflection of this.  

Feeding Cows – cows continued on their upward trajectory to average £1165 but a good show of meat and quality assisted the sale. Continental cows carrying finish were rapidly to £1300 and empty heifers or 1st calvers at 35 months and under the same level if showing scope for improvement. Lightweight lean cows are now £700 and upwards.

Stores – A nice enquiry for younger cattle today, without having the quality forward like the Show/Sale seen last fortnight. Bullocks under 12mo seeing a good enquiry, especially anything well put together, seeing 10/11mo Char cross to £1170 from Seth Blakey Bolton by Bowland. Other nice sorts into 4 figures, with younger bullocks at 7-8-9mo mainly £800’s or into the £900’s. Heifers under 12mo weren’t much different, smarter sorts into 4 figures, rising to £1280 from John Stephenson Bordley. Cattle aiming to turn out for summer £700 to £900 depending on type.

Cattle 12mo to 16mo saw best making suckler bred bullocks reaching £1100 to £1300, David Broadbent selling a January 2021 born Blue cross Bullock at £1380 to lead the age grade. Better Beef Dairy cross Bullocks £1000 to £1150 at this age. The same applied to Heifers, £1150-£1300 for nice sorts, Mark Nelson Bull and Cave selling to £1340 for a February 2021 born Limousin cross.

Strong cattle, 18mo plus, were forward in good numbers with over 250 dropping into this age range, and selling to a fast trade. Bullocks topped £1600 for a thick Limousin cross from Fairplace Farm Cowling, others to £1470 £1440 and £1400 twice from Williamson Bros Ulverston and £1470 JK Wilson Blubberhosues. Best Beef Dairy crosses included SW&JE Ryder Norwood at £1470, DT&LA Houseman at £1460 and £1450 twice,  M Ryder & Son Haverah Park £1420, KM&L Throup Silsden £1410, N&J Thwaite Hellifield £1400 for a pen of 3. Plenty of strong framed bullocks in the £1300s this week, whilst the medium keeping types up a gear making £1150 to £1280. All bullocks 18mo plus averaged £1209.
The older heifers were no different, G&R Bulmer making £1480 with a May 21 born Lim cross, £1250 to £1440 the range for other better end. Medium fleshed 22mo to 26mo types, mainly Beef Dairy cross finding favour with buyers looking for cattle to hard feed quickly £1150 to £1300, slightly younger £1050 to £1200. All heifers 18mo plus averaged £1136.
 

Native Cattle saw Beef Shorthorn Bullocks to £1350 from R Naylor & son Ilkley, Angus Bullocks to £1420 M Ryder & Son with plenty nice framed end £1200 to £1300, whilst Dairy breeds were good to sell, Friesians to £1290 from Williamson Bros and a breed average of £1009, Montys to £1290 from SW&JE Ryder to level at £1196!
