Store Lambs - A larger entry of long keep lambs which proved a good trade. Continental and Suffolk long keep lambs were £75- £82 throughout, Medium keep lambs £85-£90 and strong lambs £90-£98 with an odd pen of mixed wethers and gimmers up to £112. The smart Beltex lambs were well supported throughout most £86 to £102. Mule lambs were a solid trade all day strong pens £79.50 to £86 and nearly all pens £75 and upwards. Masham wethers were an excellent trade selling to a top of £97 to average £88! John Bland’s annual consignment of Swaledale wether lambs straight from the hill topped at £58 and averaged £50. Cheviot lambs a good trade at either side of £80.

5,139 gimmer lambs forward in today’s sale with trade very buoyant for the strong shlg makers, both first cross and pure-bred, with the gimmer lambs selling to a wide audience. A definite leaning today towards Suffolks and Texels bred form the Mule ewe, especially those good clean skinned sorts with smart heads. Some runs of commercial gimmers saw the smaller end and more crossed types selling from store price to £10 above. Suffolk crosses sold very well with tupping lambs £115-£130 with a top price twice over from SA Robinson, Harrogate and RD Metcalfe & Son, Harrogate making £135. Running Suffolk x gimmers £95-£110, a few nice pens into the mid late teens.
Texel & Continental cross gimmers a two-tiered trade with good clean headed gimmers and strong boned sheep meeting a high demand and pure Texel gimmers meeting high demand. Top price came from O Chapman, Skipton with his first prized pen of Texel gimmers selling for £170 and from KW Gamble, Easingwold also making the same price. Best end first crosses sold from £130-£150, slightly smaller goods £110-£120 but still tupping lambs. Some runs of crossed gimmers sold between the £90-£105 range that weren’t just as smart in the head as better runs. Smaller running Texel cross gimmers and end of vendors large runs store price to £10 dearer. Best Beltex’s a good trade yet again with the top end £110-£128, tyhe smaller end were early £100’s and late £90’s, which was similar to store price.
