Forward: 680 head of cattle
Comprising: 659 Feeding Cattle (184 Young Bulls, 55 Beef Feeding Cows & Bulls, 420 Bullocks & Heifers) & 12 Breeding Cattle & 9 Pedigree Blue Cattle.
Feeding Bulls – 15 active buyers at the ring side for the 185 bulls with an overall average of £1167. Bulls under 12 months average £1159 with the best £1340-£1420. Particular interest in the smart 300kg bulls to put away which were over £1100-£1200. Bulls over 12 months regularly at £1400. Buyers still keen to keep bull pens full as the prime bull trade continues to be more at unprecedented levels.
Feeding Cows – feeding cows averaged £985. An exceptional limousin cow made £1920 with the same vendor R Holroyd of Wadsworth selling a second Limousin cow at £1620. Cows carrying size and finish were £1200-£1340 and the light weight lean cows were usually £700.
Cast bulls topped at £1800 for a 10 year old British Blue.
Stores – Overall numbers a little tighter today as mainly Continental Sired Cattle forward with Native Sired Cattle held over for the Special Spring Sale next week.
Strong Cattle for short keep in high demand, best Suckler bred Bullocks £1300 to £1450, Strong Dairy Beef Crosses £1250 to £1350. Next grade of Suckler crosses just over a year old £1100-£1250, Dairy Beef Crosses £1100-£1200, Mont Blks up to £1225. Suckler bred Blks Spring 2020 born still a strong enquiry, around £20 a piece dearer than recent sales.
Quality Heifers in short supply. Best over year cattle £1300 - £1500, smart yearling heifers £1100-£1300, a few a shade more. Any heifers with frame and going forward, even dairy beef crosses £1150-£1300, whilst harder looking sorts for grazing attracted a very good enquiry.

Top call of the day at the Annual Blue Wednesday Sale of Pedigree British Blue Cattle was Topside Orion. Orion is a 2019 son of Springbank Blackstar bred from the Campagnard ET De St Fontaine cow, Lukeroyal Winnifred and was consigned by Ross & Elaine Pattinson from Brampton with a successful sale at 5100gns to li9cal dairy farmer Nick Parker. In the pre sale show judge Geoff Walker found his champion in Maidenlands Oxygen, a 2019 son of Baron du Bois Bauloye from Dean Sauders of Ulverston. Bred from one of the best female lines in the herd. Oxygen is a grand daughter of Maidenlands Holly and found a new home in Cornwall at 4700gns. 3rd top price bull of the day was from Mark and Elaine Hartley’s Pendle Herd Pendle Oleg sold for 4200gns and joined N Asquith. The 2nd prized bull was from JS Stephenson of Bordley which made 3800gns.
