SATURDAY AT 10am – MONTHLY CATALOGUE SALE OF 260 STIRKS, WEANLINGS AND YOUNG STORES.

Feeding Bulls – trade for medium bulls was back up again for the middleweights and assisted by a number of good runs of Continentals. The middle cut were £1300-£1420, strong bulls £1500 and the creep fed lightweights £950-£1050.

Feeding Cows – cows are in demand reflecting a very good abattoir trade. An exceptional British Blue cow made £1880. Continental cows £1300 - £1450 if carrying finish, lean cows £700+. Best natives, a Hereford at £1430 and a 3 year old Saler Cast Bull at £1500.   

Stores –

Cattle numbers tight and retail quality prime trade rising causing a nice trade throughout today.
Young Cattle were good to sell, Messrs Duerden of Lindal in Furness presented a lovely run of 9mo old bullocks suitable for retail use that peaked at £1600 for a June ’22 born Pathenais cross, others at £1490 £1400 £1340 and £1310 all June born, the reminder of the run in the £1200’s.
Mark Evans of Steeton sold a pair of June ’22 born Blonde cross bullocks at £1320, whilst WB Woodsworth of Storriths had a great pen of 3 Limousin x Bullocks April ’22 born make £1290. Other better Spring ’21 born bullocks £1050 to £1200, whilst 12mo Limousin Dairy cross bullocks from P Ormerod West Marton sold to £1075, and May June ’21 Simmental Bullocks to £1070 from S Clarkson Halifax. Overall an excellent enquiry for bullocks up to a year old.

Older Bullocks saw £1560 for a 22mo Limousin cross from JGE Heseltine & Son of Bolton Abbey, and £1540 for a 22mo Angus from C Wellock of Halton East. 35 Angus Bullocks of all ages forward for sale levelled at £1135. Messrs Walmsley of Blackburn had a cracking Limousin Bullocks 22mo that sold to £1460, and Messrs Wellock made £1450 of Blue crosses at similar age. Williamson Bros of Ulverston sold to £1400 with 20mo Blue crosses. Older cattle for short keep good to sell, medium cattle including the dairy beef crosses 16-18mo a similar trade, Black and white bullocks short of numbers with only 21 dairy sired selling to £1160 for a pen of 6 from Williamson Bros to level at £960.

Younger Heifers up to a year old were equally as good to sell as bullocks with DM White of Hebden making £1400 of a 10mo Limousin cross. WI&AM Atkinson of Bleasedale topped their run at £1380 and £1250 for 11/12mo Limousins, and £1150 for 11mo Limousins from WB Woodsworth of Storriths.

Older retail quality types were the trade of the day with buyers keen, F&A Walmsley made £1550 and £1530 of May’20 Limousin crosses with Jeff Pickles of Ribblehead up at £1540 and £1400 for similar age Limousins. Chris Bamforth of Slaithwaite sold to £1500 with 13mo Limousins (Feb ’21).
Dairy Beef Crosses were in fair demand today with JGE Heseltine of Bolton Abbey selling to £1360 for a pair of 19mo Blue crosses, Aimee Beresford Halton West hit £1350 for a pair of strong Dairy Blue crosses. Both vendors selling others in the mid late £1200’s for Dairy blue Crosses. Mediums sorts in the £1100’s. Blue Heifers averaged £1160 and Limousin Heifers averaged £1153.
