Feeding Bulls – the bull entry is between seasons with few 2020 Autumn calves abd the first of 2021 spring appearing. Shapey bulls under 10 months in forward condition from £950 to £1135. A good trade continued against increased fee cost. Bulls in the strong category scares and a good trade as pens empty in t he run up to Christmas. Top was £1590 for a 15 month old pure bred limousin. Other bulls over 12 months £1200+

Feeding Cows – beef feeding cows were a sharp trade with a better show of cattle carrying flesh. Top price, a 6 year old Pure Blue Cow at £1440 from Ken Gamble. Continental beef cross cows very good for meat and especially strong cows sold for improvement on both counts the range was £1100-£1200. Native tended towards the heavy and thick. The best Angus was £1240 and other generally £1000-£1200. Demand will remain as prime demand switched to manufacturing meat in the new year.

Stores – Store cattle finding a solid trade throughout today. Plenty of cattle with size forward for feeding purchasers, together with suckled calves and smart yearlings for growers, and the ringside bolstered with additional buyers after size and weight of all classes. Even with such a miserable wet day the cattle under 14 months still met a flying trade.

Blue Bullocks with size and weight sold at £1300-£1425. Other big strong feeding bullocks with weight £1200-£1280 and leaner feeding goods £1080-£1160. Suckler bred yearlings £920-£1100, 11-12 month old Dairy bred blues with frame selling either side of £1000, whilst a March ’21 born 8 month old suckler bred blue bullock from D Broadbent, Halifax sold for the top Blue price of£1460.
Blue heifers were well sort after with smartest goods going for breeding and to retail customers. Good end retail cattle £1200-£1300 with a few exceptions reaching a cracking trade with JG Bamforth, Huddersfield selling a yearling blue to £1520 and JA&A Harper selling a 16-month blue heifer at £1490. Dairy bred blue heifers with weight, size and frame selling up-to £1280 with good framed feeders £1100-£1180 and leaner feeding cattle £1020-£1070.
Plenty of exceptional cattle reaching the £1300 barrier. Good end Lim feeders with weight and frame selling at £1400-£1560 with P&E Fox, Clitheroe selling their steer to £1560 and M Ryder & Sons, Harrogate selling their strong Lim heifer to £1700. Plenty of smart end Lim heifers and bullocks £1300-£1450. Next grade down selling at £1150-£1250 for good retail goods.
Yearling continental heifers and bullocks £920-£1100 depending on style with exceptional goods flying on such as Ian Townson’s first prize 14-month-old red Limousin bullock selling to £1650. More commercial types of young Spring born suckled calves can be picked up for mid £700’s to late £800’s.
Native cattle still meeting a high demand with top end goods £1200-£1280 and other feeders £1100-£1180. Native 7-month-old bullocks from DM Neave, Ashworth selling at £780. Angus Bullocks averaged £1096 all in, and Angus Heifers £1021 all in.
