8,500-plus Skipton store lambs sold to complete clearance
Skipton Auction Mart’s fortnightly Wednesday store lambs sale saw plenty of local purchasers ringside, plus travelling buyers from Wales, Cumbria, South Yorkshire and several southern counties. (Wed, Aug 11)
The overall average for 8,508 lambs presented and sold to a complete clearance came to £82.94 and included a much larger turnout of nearly 2,000 North of England Mules and crossed lambs out of hill sheep.
The annual Beltex-x lambs show class saw top price of £113 per head fall to the third prize pen of 25 from Ian Moorhouse, of Dacre. Otterburn’s Andrew Haggas was awarded first place, his charges making £105 each, while 2019 show class victor. Owen Wells, from Monyash in the Derbyshire Peak District, returned to stand runner-up, his lambs knocked down at £107 per head.
Mule and Masham wethers sold well, with purchasers keen for numbers.. W Richardson & Son, of Dufton, sold 111 Mules in one lot to make £83.50 per head.
