Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Feeding Sheep

The fortnightly store sheep sale at Skipton witnessed an electric trade as the average rose by £6.22 per head on the fortnight to settle at £96.77 per head across the board for a show that included a higher percentage of wintering and long keep types.
The stronger Continental and Suffolk x lambs on the day were way short of requirements and easily commanded £115 to £125 as the finished market remains strong this week. The top sale price of the day went to T&C Robinson of Tosside at £135 for Beltex crosses, followed by AN Throup of Silsden Moor at £134 for Texels and a few other smart pens reaching £130 from SL&SD Lund of Littondale and RJ Bailey of Reeth, Richmond fro a run of Blue Texel crosses.
£100 to £115 was the general range for medium types or smaller smart skinned lambs, and £90s for nice long keep lambs. Mid £70s and £80s for smaller long keep first crosses or from hill ewes.
Mule & Masham lambs were keenly contested, especially better framed lambs which were £100 to £110 up to £124 from J Dibb of Kilnsey, mediums Mid £90s, smalls mid £70s to late £80s. A run of Mule Gimmer Lambs peaked at £126 and £124 from M Harker of Trawden.
Best end of Horned lambs into the £80s, better framed types £70’s, mediums £58 to £70 and smalls in the £40-£55 region.
