Continental lambs from the smartest Beltex, through to the small long keep wintering types was good. Beltex peaked at £135 twice, both pens coming from T&C Robinson of Tosside. S Smith of Thronton Steward made £128 and £123, Andrew Haggas of Otterburn also made £128, and TB Moorhouse & Son, Dacre topped at £120. Medium keep types £100 to £110 and wintering types in the £90’s.
Texel Lambs followed a similar trade to the previous sale, strong types £90’s to £105, mediums late £80’s, long keep £70’s to early £80’s, smalls in the £50s and £60’s.
1800 Mule & Masham Wethers averaged £78.55, with the stronger end on the day in the £80’s and long keep types in the mid late £70’s. Mules topped £85 form Brian Taylor of Diggle, and Masham to £88 from Derek Harker, Middlesmoor, Pateley Bridge.
Increasing number of Horned and Hill bred sorts, strongest Swales and Dalesbred late £60’s to early 70’s, best of the rest early mid £60’s, and nice farming types in the mid late £50’s, an excellent average of £60.14 recorded for Swaledales. Cheviots found a nice following, with K Lister & son Kettlewell into the £80’s and £90s with two large pens full.
