Another large sale of lambs, and a nice average for an entry containing 2100 Mule & Masham Wethers and 1200 Horned Wethers.
Smart pens of Beltex Lambs hitting £105 to £116 for something with a little more size, whilst the long keep smart little peach's were generally from £90 to £105. A Beltex cross small lamb or something not just as smart was in the £80’s.
Best end of Continental Gimmer Lambs on the day £100 to £120, Suffolk crosses mid £90’s to £110, but buyers were more selective this fortnight and anything not catching their eye was back in price, the demand is for the clean sorts of lambs with runners needing a bit of frame with clean head and skin due to more been show as drawn gimmers this season and more choice.
Mixed pens of strong Suffolk and Continental store lambs from Mid £80’s forward into the £90’s, but these weren’t as plentiful as previous sales. There are more medium to long keep lambs now hitting the market, and £75 to £83 now a more common price range mainly due to the size of lamb on offer. Small lambs for genuine long term keep late 60’s to early 70’s.
Mule and Masham Wethers sold well on the day, strongest end hitting £80 plus, good frame lambs £76-£79, and long keep types £70 to £75.
Horned lambs also in good numbers, best framed lambs late £50’s to early £60’s, nice farming lambs a tenner less, and smaller wintering lambs £35 to £45, a few pens of small shot lambs teens and £20’s.
