GREAT ANNUAL SHOW AND SALE OF RARE BREEDS, JACOBS & WENSLEYDALES AT CCM......

SHINING STAR CLARY COSMOS ECLIPSES PREVIOUS RECORD. A new Skipton record price of 11,000gns and a healthy rise in averages for rams was seen at the Annual Sale of Pedigree Rams & Females held on behalf of The Beltex Sheep Society at Skipton on Saturday. It was the ram lamb Clary Cosmos ET, from Jock McMillan of Newton Stewart, a son of the imported ram Henry V/H/Vrijbos out of the Supersonic daughter Clary Wild Thing ET who herself was Ayr Show Champion in 2015, that attracted much interest and was awarded the Supreme Champion rosette, the successful bid of 11,000gns coming from Rosie Boden of Stockport. Next in the running at 4,200gns was the reserve show champion from William and Elizabeth McAllister of Ballymena. A son of Ardstewart Armani out of the homebred Cinderella Ewe, this strong and well admired Shearling ram sold locally to Nick Brown and Charlotte Ormonroyd from Claughton, Lancaster. Proctors Farm from Wray near Lancaster topped at 3,000gns with their pen leader Proctors Banker ET. This son of the main stock ram Rathbone Wallace out of Artnagullion Sizie stayed in the Lune Valley when selling to James Wannop from Heaton, Morecambe. Jock McMillan completed a great day at Skipton when a full brother to the champion sold for 2,500gns to Messrs C Birrell & Co, Castle Douglas. Brian Hall from Ainstable topped his pen at 2,000gns with his leading shearling selling for 2,000gns, whilst Karen & David Shuttleworth topped their Heber Park consignment at the same money.

It’s cheers all round as David Brewer wins Skipton poultry championship Poultry made a welcome return to the exhibition arena at Skipton Auction when the latest Craven Feather Auctions show and sale produced a championship success for up-and-coming 19-year-old local breeder, Cononley’s David Brewer. (Sat, Sept 2) He clinched the title with his first prize large fowl pen, a trio of 2017-born White Silkies, a cock and two pullets, which went on to achieve the day’s top price of £120.

Andrew Fisher nets top honours again at Skipton Wensleydale highlight Andrew Fisher, of Well House Farm, Low Laithe, Harrogate, stepped up with the champion for the second consecutive year at the 126th annual Wensleydale Longwool Sheep Breeders Association show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. Trumper family debut success at Skipton Jacob highlight A ewe lamb from first-time exhibitors the Trumper family, from Brynderi, Abergavenny in Monmouthshire, south-east Wales, stole the limelight when crowned supreme champion at the Northern Area Jacob Sheep Breeders’ 42nd annual show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. (Sat, Sept 2)

Forward: 731 head of cattle Comprising: 87 Young Feeding Bulls, 16 Beef Feeding Cows, 621 Bullocks & Heifers, & 7 Breeding Cattle. Feeding Bulls – The first real show of 2017 born cattle in the feeding bull section and trade was good. TH Mellin with a pen of sweet February born Limousin crosses out of Blue x Cows averaged £895 with a top of £990. SJ&RK Handy sold January born Limousin crosses to £990 and A Twell with March born British Blue crosses to £980. Under 12 months old bulls averaged £916.77.

The Inaugural Sale of Suffolk Breeding Sheep saw 30 Pedigree and Pure Bred sheep go under the hammer. The Pre Sale Show of rams saw the ram lamb of Stephen Bolland, Bolton Abbey take 1st prize in his class and went on to make the top price lamb at 550gns to James Foster, Riddings. John Nutter of Hurst Green took the first prize in Shearling class with a super entry and sold for the top price of 600gns. A 70% clearance of rams saw shearlings av £569 and ram lambs average £412.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 9,802 Head Store & Breeding Sheep (comprising 9,755 Store Lambs & 27 Pedigree Suffolk Breeding Sheep) A very large show of lambs today sold to an overall average of £59.30, completing a busy 3 days at Skipton which has seen over 20,000 Prime, Store and Breeding Sheep through the sale rings.

Forward: 5,599 head of Gimmer Shearlings CCM Auctions conducted their Great Annual Prize Sale of Gimmer Shearlings at Skipton on Tuesday and saw a much increased entry on the year, same as many other Northern Markets have. The quality end of Mule sheep were largely unaffected and sold away to a decent trade, show sheep around the £180-£220 mark, and good runs of strong sheep £150-£180, nice sorts £130-£145 and the commercial sorts £120-125.

Rearing Calves to £460 (80 head) Another healthy number of calves through the door today with the top price calf belonging to Hayton and Stocks of Bolton Abbey. Fred Houseman saw a flying trade with blue heifers at £450 and £440 with Hayton & Stocks seeing their strong limousin heifers reach £415 and £400. Native bulls were a premium today with the calves on offer flying away with young calves nudging the £300 mark all the time. Black and whites touch easier on the week, again a mixed show of quality hampering the average but overall a straight trade for the better end topping at £105 for a nice calf from Robert Throup of Bradley.

CCM Auctions held their Annual Special Sale of Breeding Ewes 2 Shear and older together with other sheep at Skipton on Wednesday where there was an entry of 828 sheep with additional sale day entries. There were some very good Annual Consignments of young sheep with Thomas Binns making £158 and £150 of 2 shear Mules and David Coates making £150 on three occasions also for 2 shear Mules. Some large consignments of full mouth correct Mule ewes and broken mouth ewes receiving strong interest for early lamb production, as were the stronger Suffolk and Continental cross ewes the best of which were in the £100 to £115 region.
