Breeding Sheep (1,065 Head)
Another good strong entry of 1,065 head comprising 430 Sheep with 625 Lambs at foot and 5 Geld Hoggs.
A bit of a two tier system this week, older sheep good to sell, especially those with strong lambs, but younger sheep and hoggs with lambs at foot were harder to cash than recent weeks. As usual please let us have entries by 12noon on Friday for inclusion in the weekly online catalogue.

Sheep numbers tightening and this has helped trade, especially in the hogg section. Lambs were a nice trade all sale long, with 220p to 235p and easy figure to achieve for the 39kg to 42kg weights. Some heavier lambs and inside fed sorts under 200p, but an overall average of 218p was recorded.
In the hoggs there was a better show for meat and handyweights and lightweights were a quite a bit sharper on the week, but the heavy hoggs were furthest up, with several pens top side of £100 again up to £123 from Ian Marsden of Hoylandswaine.
Cast sheep followed the trend of the hoggs and prices were significantly stronger on the week with numbers tightening quickly.

Calves were once again good to sell with all calves selling to a strong trade with continentals and natives looking cheap on paper, however for what they were the trade was strong. A Strong Limousin Suckler bred calf sold to the top price of £515 from Messrs Worthington, Ramsbottom.

Craven Dairy Auction (23 head)
A smaller show for the early month show and sale of dairy cattle today with the balance of supply and demand finely balanced around the ring. A fall again in the commercial leagues of heifers with a number of good heifers sliding out of the £1,500’s into the £1,400’s. However a breath of fresh air with the Wood family from Holcombe stirred proceedings with three fine heifers topping today’s trade at £1820.
Cows from DL Leeming Ltd and Calvert Bros were up for grabs with Mark and Karen Calvert reaching £1650 for a 3rd Calver with a pedigree boasted some 13 gens of VG or EX behind it and was bought by a fine Pedigree Herd from Oakworth. David Leeming from Burnt Yates hit £1420 for a new calved heifer, arguably a bit back on the fortnight for this stamp of goods.
Two strong Incalf heifers from I Olivers & Partners looked the dearest things on the day at £1380 and £1160.
