Prime Hogg numbers remained very static for the time of year, but the quality was far more variable than we have seen of late, but the overall average was still 189.2p/kg (SQQ of 190.5p/kg). Smart lambs were a fantastic trade, with prices very similar on the week, with 34 pens over 250p/kg up to 321p/kg for 38kg Beltex making £122 from Paul Simpson of Forest Becks purchased by Vivers Scotlamb in Annan. 9 pens made over £120, 8 of which came from Paul Simpson, and the other pen from R Crabtree & Son, Bramhope. 32 Further pens made from £100 to £117 per head. Hill bred lambs were a decent trade again, best of which were a pen of 53kg Mashams selling at £98 per head from Steve Dorey of Norton Disney with another at 46kg £89. Horned Hoggs sold to £87 for Swaledales from James Pate of Gisburn.
Cast sheep were a stronger trade on the week with buyers appearing a little keener in the face of tighter numbers.

A superb show of continental calves met a searing trade with 10 calves over £400 and topping at a Skipton Record of £780 (that is is NOT a typo). The 37 day old British Blue bull from the Sowray Bros of Bishop Thornton was the Pre Sale Show Champion Judged by Samantha Asquith, Otley sold to Skipton Regular Show Supporter Lynne Vickers of Scarborough, who also went onto pick up the Reserve Champion at £620. The Mason family from Lincolnshire picked the second and third highest priced calves of the day again from the Sowray’s at £650 and £640.
Richard Spence of Sutton In Craven took first prize with his Limousin Bull and went to top the breed on the day at £430 with RD Metcalfe of Brearton chasing him down with a close contender at £410.
In the Native section the entries of some fine Lincoln Red calves consigned by David Brown, Lofthouse took 1st and 2nd in the Bulls and went on to sell for £315 and £295 (Certainly worth considering if you are looking to use a Native Bull).
Despite a middle of the road show of black and whites they were also met by a ferocious trade with anything bright £85 - £108 all day long even the white ones.
NB: worth noting that today’s average age of calves was 40 days old for 83 on offer
