Spring Lambs: A slightly better show today for quality helped to maintain the overall average from last week. Nice lambs 230p to 240p, Tops at £109 from S Coar of Goosnargh and £108 from Mark Evans of Steeton. Overall average of 220p.
Prime & Lightweight Hoggs: Lowland hoggs were a very similar trade on the week, with handy weights being the best to sell on the day, heavy sheep were generally a touch better with a shade more interest. Horned hoggs however are coming forward in larger numbers and have now struggled for a couple of weeks with demand having slipped away quite a bit from the highs of a month since.

Breeding Sheep (1,024 Head)
There were 383 Sheep with 641 lambs at foot forward for today’s weekly sale.
Trade was decent given the recent realignment in the prime sheep prices and again young sheep were keenly sought as has been the case for much of this season as customers look to find replacements to be put into flocks this spring.
Please note: Next Monday (4th May) is the Main show & sale for the season and current entries stand at 505 Geld Gimmer Hoggs, 609 Hoggs with Lambs at foot and Weekly Sale of 300 Ewes with lambs at foot. This is a fully catalogued sale, The Ballot will be drawn at 10am Tuesday 28th April and a catalogue produced and available online on Wednesday.

Craven Dairy Auction (61 head)
A sticky day in the dairy ring with a big entry for the For Farmers show and sale with trade continuing to be very volatile throughout. Well put together animals were a pleasure to sell with some strong cows from Calvert Bros and the Champion heifer from David Lawson enjoying the highest of trades at £1800 - £1900. Good honest dairy heifers were harder to sell with a large portion of heifers £1350 to £1650.
Incalf and maiden cattle seemed well supported with not quite best grown heifers for their age from John Roberts and David and Jill Pennock reaching a strong trade up to £830. Incalf heifers were topped Jeff Throup of Silsden Moor with a big black heifer.
Pedigree bulls were in demand at the end of the sale with three strong bulls selling easily and lots of interest in others outside the ring. Robert Butterfield from the Ingleview Herd topped proceedings with his entry reaching 1750gns to Mark Goodall of Tong and a big 2yr old bull from Alan Throup of the Dalesbrad herd reached 1450gns to Alf and Andrew Townsend.
