Forward: 36 Prime cattle comprising 12 Clean Cattle (under 30 mos), 1 Clean Cattle (over 30 mos) & 23 Cast Cattle. 3,420 Prime Sheep comprising 2993 Prime Lamb, 427 Cast Ewes & Rams. 126 Rearing Calves. 12 Dairy Cattle. 5 Loads of produce.

 





Prime Cattle (under 30 mos)

Top of the gross prices was a 545kg Blonde cross heifer at £1387 (254.5p) shown by RT&J Critchley&Sons of Hutton which sold to Keelham Farm Shop of Skipton who also picked up the highest priced steer at £1365 or 239.5p weighing 570kg from CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield. The highest priced p/kg animal was a 535kg LImousin cross heifer sold by Mesrs Critchley to Countrystyle Meats of Lancaster fro 255.5p/kg or £1367. A compact show of outstanding cattle saw an overall average weight of 543kg. Steers averaged 568kg av. £1345 and heifers averaged 538kg av. £1287. 8 cattle from 12 made £1300 and above.

3,420 Prime Sheep comprising 2993 Prime Lamb, 427 Cast Ewes & Rams

 

Sheep trade levelled at 160.7p/kg for 2,993 lambs with an SQQ of 162.3p/kg. Best end of Beltex sired and ¾ bred Continentals were 185p to a top of 257.1p (42kg £108) from Ellis Bros of Addingham Moorside, purchased by Vivers Scotlamb who also secured lambs at  235.9p from JM Hall of Airton and 217p from N&AD Boynton of Ripon. T&C Robinson of Tosside made 230p to Hartshead Meat Co of Mossley. Best Heavy lambs generally in the £90’s, nice heavies mid-late £80’s, and commercial heavies late 70’s to early 80’s.
A nicely bred export type lamb was 170p to 185p, whilst the next grade was 160p to 170p. Grass fed commercial types selling around 150p/155p.
Cast sheep were generally a better trade on the week, especially for a lean and medium fleshed types, heavies from mid 80’s upwards with a few pens into three figures.

Rearing Calves to £415 (126)

A strong show of calves forward today with 126 through the door this morning. Best calf on show today came from Joss Lancaster who saw £415 bid for his particularly strong British Blue bull with Andrew Ayrton of Eastby seeing some strong prices for his well presented blue bulls at £395 each. Pickersgills of Hawksworth would break £400 for a Limousin bull bred from their pure Friesian  cows. A heap of strong continental heifers found a healthy trade with best heifers £300 - £360.

 

Natives again good to sell with Angus bulls averaging £262.5 topping at £270 for a calf from PJ&JE Bolland Airton. Heifers were equally as strong averaging £176. Black and White calves were a very good trade today with 54 through the ring and some particularly heady prices for calves over a month of age with Richard Spence of Sutton seeing the best of trades topping at £185 for a strapping B&W Bull.

Craven Dairy Auction (12 head)

 

 

 A healthy show of milkers were highlighted by a tremendous heifer presented by Peter Baul of Bishop Thornton topping the days sale with a tremendous Pedigree heifer selling for £2050 to regular supporter Brian Blezard of Ribchester. Brian Moorhouse of Bell Busk once again headlined with another Pedigree Heifer giving 32kg selling for £1950 to the same purchaser.

 

Returning Robert Crisp found a high gear with his sweet 2nd calver selling for £1800 to Jeff Liddle of Huby with another cow from Ian Parkinson’s on-going dispersal, a 3rd calver reaching £1600 to the Judge Rob Marshall.

 

Next Dairy is 14th October with Entries to the office by Tuesday the 8th of October for catalogue purposes.
