MARKET REPORT - MONDAY 10th MARCH 2014 E&L

154 Breeding & Store Sheep comprising 50 Ewes with 78 lambs at foot, and 26 Store Hoggs A nice entry of ewes with lambs today for the opening weekly sale, and a full ringside of buyers all keen, with a shortage of numbers to satisfy the demand. The general trade for the Suffolk and Continental ewes was £60 to £70 per life, odd lots making more, with a top per life equivalent of £70.50 from Stuart Beeforth and £200 per outfit to the same vendor. Some nice young Mule Ewes from Chris Craven topped at £190.

First dairy title success at Skipton for family Robinson A first-ever Craven Dairy Auction championship fell to the North Craven-based Robinson family at Skipton Auction Mart’s opening March show and sale.

41 Rearing Calves & 19 Dairy Cattle. A decent show of stock forward though with a couple of punters missing trade was easier compared to previous sales. The champion a beast from Robinsons of Eldroth reached £1950, below par for the stamp of the beast.

41 Rearing Calves. 19 Dairy Cattle. A decent show of stock forward though with a couple of punters missing trade was easier compared to previous sales. The champion a beast from Robinsons of Eldroth reached £1950, below par for the stamp of the beast. Keith Downs had the top priced newly calven with a 14 day calved 31litre Heifer reaching £1980 again leaving us short of that illusive £2000 mark. A positive note the Brown Swiss Cow from David Brown, Ramsgill flew away first into the ring to keen supporter Robert Metcalfe, Brearton. Incalf cattle from Mick Corner and John Roberts were a pleasure to sell with an overall average of £1626.

MARKET REPORT - WEDNESDAY 5TH MARCH

CCM Auctions had 581 head of cattle forward for their fortnightly sale at Skipton on Wednesday. Trade for bulls was slightly harder going than the previous sale although the overall quality would also not be as good. In the Store section, cattle were generally a shade younger, but some quality annual consignments of yearling heifers from Messrs Keighley, Leathley and Messrs Taylor, Cumberworth created considerable interest at the ringside and sold well. Grazing cattle of all types were also in strong demand, defying the thoughts that these would be cheaper

A very good entry for the time of year was assembled before the usual ringside of customers and a fast selling trade ensued, although not just as dear as the previous sale. Brian Moorhouse, Bell Busk had the pick of the bunch with a superb home bred pedigree heifer giving 31kg reaching £2650 to a Mr Clarke of Hampsthwaite.
