PEDIGREE BELTEX - SATURDAY 14TH DECEMBER 2019

Matthew Burleigh championship hat-trick at CCM Skipton Beltex winter females shows Northern Ireland’s Matthew Burleigh, who runs the Matt’s pedigree flock at Shanra, near Enniskillen in Co. Fermanagh, claimed a memorable hat-trick when sending out the title winner for the third consecutive year at The Northern Beltex Society’s eighth annual winter show and sale of pedigree in-lamb ewes at Skipton Auction Mart. John Hindle flies high again at Skipton Christmas poultry showcase Red Rose poultry breeder John Hindle, from Oswaldtwistle, ruled the roost yet again when once more exhibiting the champion pen of birds at the Craven Premier Poultry Christmas show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. (Sat, Dec 14) Mr Hindle has been a high flier at all three of the mart’s poultry shows this year, standing champion at the Spring fixture with White Wyandottes and reserve champion with Light Sussex at the autumn highlight.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 11TH DECEMBER 2019

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs, Feeding and Breeding Sheep Forward: 3,143 Head (Overall av £63.12) A Cracking trade throughout for the store lambs which saw vendors tail end lambs making just as much as their 2nd draws in previous months. An overall average of £63.12 was seen in the ring today including large runs of late season type and hill bred lambs. Continentals with frame and size getting away at £65-£73 whilst the pure bred smallest sorts getting to the same money. Better Bred large sorts getting into the 80’s to top at £95 from P Johnson. Medium Suffolks selling £60+ with the smalls mid £50s.

More festive show success for Keasden Head herd at CCM Skipton Christmas store cattle highlight Sheila Mason’s Keasden Head herd in North Craven secured yet another championship, also picking up the reserve championship for good measure, at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual Christmas store cattle fixture. (Wed, Dec 5) Sheila, fresh from her success the previous day when also standing champion at the Christmas cast cattle show, followed up with a notable double with a brace of home-bred Limousin-cross heifers, aged 13 months and 12 months, tapped out by Scottish show judge Ian Wainwright, of Fife, who later backed his judgment in the sale ring when acquiring the principals for his Todd Hall herd at £1,100 and £1,000.

Dairy At the Annual Christmas Show and Sale of Dairy cattle the Supreme Championship was awarded to Brian Moorhouse of Bell Busk showing Aireburn Saloon Sher a first calving daughter of the Semex sire Sandy Valley Saloon bred from the EX90 Aireburn Shamrock Sher, herself a cow bred from 8 generations of VG or EXC, having given close on 31000 litres in 3 lactations. Sold 14 days calved and giving 34kg Aireburn Saloon Sher joined John Hitchen of Crib Farm Dairies at Luddenden Foot for the top price of the day at £2500.

Keasden Head British Blue cow champion at CCM Skipton Christmas cast cattle show North Craven’s Sheila Mason, who runs the Keasden Head herd, stood champion with a 2008-born pure bred British Blue cow at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual Christmas cast cattle show. (Mon, Dec 2) Weighing in a 925kg, Keasden Head Dotty, a well-utilised flushing cow and also mother of the herd’s main stock bull, the easy calving Keasden Head Guinness, who has been responsible for Craven Champions prize winners at Skipton, went on the sell for top gross price of £1,290 when joining John Thompson in Gargrave.

Bell Busk Moorhouses retain Craven Dairy Auction Christmas championship Husband and wife, Brian and Judith Moorhouse, who run the prolific Aireburn pedigree Holstein herd at Hesper Farm, Bell Busk, bagged the Christmas Craven Dairy Auction supreme championship for the second year running at Skipton Auction Mart. (Monday, Dec 2) The Moorhouses, multiple champions and prize winners with dairy cattle at their local mart, retained the festive title with Aireburn Saloon Sher, a first calving daughter of the Semex sire, Sandy Valley Saloon, bred from the EX90 Aireburn Shamrock Sher, herself a cow bred from eight generations of VG or EXC, having given close on 31,000 litres across three lactations.

The No 1 Main Street shop has just been taken over by Alison Kay, partner of local farmer, Dave Kirby, from long-time owner Peter Buck, who has now retired.

Louise Findlay porkers champions at CCM Skipton Christmas highlight North Yorkshire teenager Louise Findlay, from Leyburn, won the prime pigs championship for the first time at Skipton Auction Mart’s 12th annual Christmas primestock shows and sales. (Sun, Dec 1) The 19-year-old has been a regular winner with her porkers at the annual highlight, but this was her first title win, achieved with her lightweight class victors, a pen of three 89lg pure Pietrain gilts tapped out as overall champions by judge Mick Etherington, of Eldwick.
