STORE CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 3rd DECEMBER

MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 3rd DECEMBER 2014. Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle. Forward: 394 head of cattle, Comprising: 177 Young Feeding Bulls, 210 Bullocks & Heifers, 7 Feeding Cows. A large show of cattle for the time of year met with a packed ringside and most classes were easily cleared to a fast selling trade as feeders look to keep sheds full. Strong bullocks and Heifers were especially well sought after, whilst good commercial heifers rising a year old found plenty of favour at the ringside.

Feeders out in force at Skipton festive store cattle highlight The annual Christmas store cattle shows at Skipton Auction Mart attracted a plentiful turnout for the time of year of 394 head, which were sold at a packed ringside, with most classes easily cleared to a fast-selling trade, as feeders sought to keep their sheds full over the festive period. All prize winners easily made into four figures.

MARKET REPORT – MONDAY 1st DECEMBER 2014 Forward: 78 Prime cattle comprising Clean Cattle 3 (under 30 mos), 2 Clean Cattle (over 30 mos) & 73 Cast Cattle. 3,359 Prime Sheep comprising 2,906 Prime Lambs, 453 Cast Ewes & Rams. 92 Rearing Calves (inc Christmas Show). 6 Loads of produce. Todays Sale incorporated the Christmas Prize Shows and Sales of Rearing Calves, Cast Cattle and Cast Sheep. All sections were very well supported and the prize awards and prices are contained within the following report.

Sowrays secure Skipton Christmas rearing calf championship hat-trick The Sowray dairy farming family from Bowes Green Farm, Bishop Thornton, won their third successive Christmas rearing calf title at Skipton Auction Mart. (Mon, Dec 1) It capped an excellent year at the North Yorkshire venue for brothers Peter, Paul and Shaun Sowray, who have reigned supreme with their top-notch British Blue-cross bull calves at all but one of the six seasonal highlights, becoming reserve champions at the other.

CHRISYMAS SHOW CULL CATTLE & EWES - MONDAY 1ST DECEMBER 2014 PRESS

Skipton Christmas cull shows popular Annual Christmas shows for cull cows and ewes again featured in the festive line-up at Skipton Auction Mart. Cull cow champion was Brian Lund, of Walshaw Farm, Walshaw, Hebden Bridge, with a home-bred pure 41-month-old Parthenais by the Genus sire Atomic that went on to head the selling prices at £1,361, or 186.5p/kg, when bought by show judge Ross Greenwood, of Carleton. He also paid £1,205, or 155.5p/kg, for his chosen reserve champion, the second prize Continental cow, another Parthenais from M Bentham, of Thornton, Bradford.

Huntley’s buys reserve champion prime lambs for Christmas Huntley’s Country Stores in Samlesbury will be serving up top-notch prime lamb cuts in its butchery department this Christmas after the award-winning Whalley Road outlet snapped up the reserve supreme champions in the annual Christmas prime lamb show at Skipton Auction Mart. (Sun, Nov 30) The trio of 41kg Beltex-cross lambs, first prize winners in the 40kg or more Continental-cross trimmed class, were shown by Ian and Mary Lancaster, of Coldcoats Farm, Wiswell, in the shadow of Pendle Hill, and their 14-year-old son Richard, who attends Ribblesdale High School in Clitheroe.

A nice entry forward for sale and a sharp trade too. Any strong lambs were very well bid for as the list of prices below shows, several notable pens including David Walmsley, Worston selling 123 Texels in one pen at £70 each, and James Hall, Darnbrook selling 101 Mule Wethers in one pen at £66.80 each. Strong Horned lambs up around £50. Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 429 head of cattle Comprising: 128 Young Feeding Bulls, 3 Grazing Cows, 286 Bullocks & Heifers, 12 Breeding Cattle A great November entry of Store cattle were forward at CCM Auctions Fortnightly Sale held at Skipton on Wednesday. A younger entry of bulls were a decent trade with less of the top end strong stuff in the entry, but quality sold well and commercial types had plenty of bidders. In the stores, good older cattle were dearer than the previous sale, whilst suckled calves were forward in good numbers and heifers found a nice enquiry form a full ringside of buyers. To highlight the crowded ringside, there were 70 successful different purchasers on the day drawn from Lincolnshire, East Yorkshire, County Durham, Cumbria, Lancashire, Cheshire, Derbyshire together with the usual good contingent of local men.

Forward: 6,517 Head – 5,072 Store Lambs & 1,445 Breeding Sheep Next Sale is Wednesday 26th November – Entry of 6,000 expected. Entries close Monday 17th November Plenty of late Autumn grass and a timely lift in prime sheep prices together with a large company of southern based buyers helped to raise store sheep trade by some £3 to £5 per head today, when good entry ofover 6000 sheep were forward for the early November sale of Store & Breeding Sheep.

75 Rearing Calves 31 Dairy Cattle A packed market full of livestock at CCM Skipton today with all three selling rings in operation and nearly every pen was used at some stage in the day with stock for sale. There were 309 different sellers and buyers present in the mart successfully trading away, so take a look at today’s report then bring your stock next week to Skipton.
