Rearing Calves to £440X2 (50) B&W av £124.09 Cont av £330.30 Native av £185 Strong trade again for calves with black and whites yet again a scintillating trade with the average age around 31 days and averaging an impressive £124 with John Wright of Airton topping at £230 with John Dugdale of Stackhouse at £225. The France family of Liversedge saw their calves average £142 for fortnight old friesians topping at £195, £190 and £180.

Craven Dairy Auction (19 head) A good day in the dairy ring and about time too, with the green shoots of a recovery in the liquid milk trade with a much improved trade met the vendors who turned out with a healthy show of milkers on offer for the late show and sale of Dairy Cattle kindly sponsored by Trouw Nutrition, Woldmarsh and NMR.

CALVES - MONDAY 13TH JUNE 2016

Rearing Calves to £480 (75) B&W av £120.36 Cont av £356.85 Native av £247.38 Church Farm Enterprises took the top honours at Skipton Auction for the Summer Calf Show with his British Blue Bull reaching £480. Michael Heron of Bramhope took the reserve champion place with a superb Aberdeen Angus heifer which went on to sell for £330. Black and whites saw a stiff trade right through the sale with Paul Bolland of Airton taking the highest price at £230 with John Wright of Kirk Syke not far behind at £215 such a trade saw the black whites on offer reach £120.36 average, with 10 over £100.

BREEDING SHEEP - MONDAY 13TH JUNE 2016

436 Breeding Sheep comprising 137 Sheep with 259 lambs at foot, 34 Charollais Females and 6 Rams Today’s sale included a dispersal of Charollais and Mule Sheep on behalf of The Sedgwick Family from Bough Gap, Trawden following the untimely passing of Peter who along with Joan had been longstanding Charollais Sheep breeders and enthusiasts. The sheep, although coming from a high hill farm on the Yorkshire/Lancashire border, were shown in decent fettle and were good sound sorts. The ring was packed to the rafters with friends and fellow breeders all looking to purchase stock. The Charollais’s all found new homes at what were seen to be reasonable prices, whilst the commercial sheep sold in front of recent trade, which would reflect the genuine nature of these sheep.

STORE CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 8TH JUNE 2016

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 544 head of cattle Comprising: 161 Young Feeding Bulls, 9 Grazing Cows, 305 Bullocks & Heifers & 69 Breeding Cattle. CCM Auctions conducted their fortnightly sale of Store & Breeding Cattle at Skipton Mart on Wednesday. A good show of Young Bulls sold to a fast trade, strong sorts were keenly contested and younger bulls found a nice following as well with regular customers looking to top sheds up.

29 Rearing Calves to £385 B&W av £80.27 Cont av £337.5 Native av £195 A small show with only 29 landing on the dock with arguably the weather and the ensuing Calf Show being the major factors for such a small show. Fred Houseman yet again topped the trade with a highly sought after blue heifer reaching £385. Blue bulls didn’t top so high but averaged a healthy £357.5 however a tremendous Friesian calf from John Wright of Kirk Syke, Airton which sold for £230.

BREEDING SHEEP - MONDAY 6TH JUNE 2016

247 Breeding Sheep (comprising 105 Sheep with 142 lambs at foot) A large show for late in the season with over 100 outfits presented for sale and a slightly sharper trade as some customers look to make use of grass growth with the hotter weather. Older sheep were generally equivalent of £50 plus per life and singles £55 to £65 per life. Next weeks’ sale includes a dispersal, at short notice, of 117 Mule Ewes with strong Lambs. BREEDING SHEEP - MONDAY 30TH MAY 2016

563 Breeding Sheep (comprising 224 Sheep with 327 lambs at foot and 12 Geld Gimmer Hoggs) A larger show of breeding sheep today for the bank holiday sold to a packed ringside of customers. Good young sheep were a sharp trade being dearer on the week, whilst older sheep maintained recent good prices as grass is more plentiful. The show was well supported and the classes for Singles created some of the top prices on the day.

CALVES - MONDAY 30TH MAY 2016

Rearing Calves to £540 (40) B&W av £116.75 Cont av £398.96 Native av £236.6 Superb trade for the calves that turned up today with Graham Hayton of Bolton Abbey topping the day with his 10 week calf at £540 with Shaun Sowray the next best at £480. Any amount of calves over £400 today with GT Booth, S&PE Bowker, Church Farm Enterprises, A Sowray & Son, Hayton & Stocks all receiving above the £400 today.
