Inaugural Aberdeen-Angus females show at CCM Skipton a great success A top call of 3,400gns and a clearance rate of 95% produced the headlines at The Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society’s inaugural autumn show and sale of pedigree females at Skipton Auction Mart. (Wed, Nov 7) The much-anticipated sale of 55 head comprised a collective portion, followed by a draft of matron cows from the local Airedale pedigree herd of South Craven father and son farmers and butchers, David and Joshua Isherwood.

Curries in red hot form at CCM Skipton Beef Shorthorn highlight Beautry reserve champion sets all-time centre record price of 11,000gns There was a standout local success at the North of England Beef Shorthorn Club’s ninth annual show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart, when Stuart and Gail Currie’s Beautry herd in Rathmell, near Settle, secured a scintillating championship and reserve championship double, with the overall runner-up setting a new centre sales record by far for the breed of 11,000gns. The South Devon Herd Book held their Annual Skipton sale on Wednesday where a nice entry of 9 Maiden Heifers were put forward for sale. Leading the sale at 1400gns was an 2016 born heifer from A Welch of York. A solid average of £1230.83 was seen for a 100% clearance.

Stuart and Gail Currie who farm at Rathmell sent out the Supreme Champion Beautry Rose Lolita a quality Roan March 2017 daughter of Poyntington Himself the half sister to Kooky Rose the northern calf show champion in 2016 and reserve at the 2017 Skipton sale.

Nice 10mth old bulls sold away at £950 -£1050 the next grade of 8-10 month old bulls at £850 - £950. 3 runs of 5-6 month old bulls from Native cows sold to £450 - £550.

Rearing Calves to £415 (94) Dairy av £53.17 Cont av £240.31 Native av £190.28 A healthy number of calves around this morning with 94 through the door. A much more predictable trade was seen today with best continentals still commanding strong money, with Paul & Janet Bolland of Airton topping the day £415 for a cracking bull calf. Native bulls were into a high gear today averaging £257 and topping at £330 for an impressive calf from Brian and Judith Moorhouse of Bell Busk, with plenty of Angus bulls over £300 this morning.

MARKET REPORT WEDNESDAY 31ST OCTOBER

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 5,584 Head (Overall av £57.60). Lambs in very sharp demand today from tops to bottom with a full ring of customers present. High demand for the smart Beltex, topping at £98 from Frankland Farms, 8 other pens at £80 plus. More of these best types of lambs needed for customers at the ringside. The strong short keep Suffolk and Texel crosses were up a gear on the fortnight by £3-£4, whilst the smaller wintering type lambs were also a better trade as seasonal buyers now begin to arrive looking for this type of lamb. FORWARD: 553 Breeding Sheep & Rams. Final Tuesday Breeding Sheep Sale of Ewes and Rams. A tidy little sale to conclude the Tuesday sale season for this year with Rams in good demand, whilst the majority of the ewes were older correct below sheep selling to a reasonable trade.

MORPHET FARM SALE - FRIDAY 26TH OCTOBER 2018

CCM Auctions conducted an on farm dispersal sale at Horton in Ribblesdale on Friday 26th October upon the instruction of Mr David A Morphet, High Birkwith Farm. The sale was attended by many friends and neighbouring farms who together with other local and national buyers formed a huge crowd on the day. The quality of items on offer was tremendous and these items created intense bidding both for the large machinery and vehicles together with general equipment.
