SKIPTON AUCTION MART MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 11th JANUARY 2017 Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 1,172 Head, Overall av £51.65 A good entry headage wise for the time of year, although very mixed in quality. Strong lambs look well bid for on the day and some vendors would be well advised to store lambs on Wednesday rather than try to push them through Monday market. Smaller lambs found a very good enquiry and would be in front of most vendors expectations on the day.

Forward: 960 head of cattle Comprising: 220 Young Feeding Bulls, 7 Beef Feeding Cows, 708 Bullocks & Heifers, & 25 Breeding Cattle. CCM Auctions conducted their opening Cattle sale of the new year at Skipton Mart where a good entry of 960 head were forward for sale. Cattle were generally not just as strong as previous years, but the quality was good, trade was brisk and overall 960 cattle sold in 6 hours 15 minutes

CALVES - MONDAY 2ND JANUARY 2017

Rearing Calves to £460 (115) B&W av £70.02 Cont av £338.7 Native av £224.6 A cracking show of Calves this morning and a strong trade to meet them, 115 calves saw a packed ringside on the new year bank holiday with the very best calves flying to strong prices. Fred Houseman and Geoff and Margaret Booth were at the Sharp end at £460 and £450 respectively with 12 Blue bulls past £400. The better blue heifers all sold away well with farmer buyers snaffling some quality entries with Martyn Jennings of Cowling having the pick of the trade at £390.

Forward: 182 head of cattle Comprising: 73 Young Feeding Bulls, 2 Beef Feeding Cows & 107 Bullocks & Heifers. A very tidy end to the year with cattle in high demand and numbers way short of requirements. Strong bulls very good to sell, medium to long keep bulls similar to previous weeks. In the stores everything was dearer as feeders looked to stock up sheds before Christmas. A nice show of cattle for the new year sale with a lot of strong sorts entered together with many annual consignments of yearling cattle for longer term keep. Forward: 1,675 Head, Overall av £51.98 Today was also the annual show of the Addingham Sheep Breeders Charity Mule Wether lamb Sale where all the proceeds were in aid of Manorlands hospice. A great thanks to all that presented lambs for sale today and to all who donated items for sale.

Baa-gains galore as annual charity lambs nets over £3,500 Big-hearted bidders were far from sheepish in their support for Addingham & District Sheep Breeders’ Association’s tenth annual charity lamb show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart, when a resounding £3,509, the highest in recent years, was raised for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope, Keighley.

Rearing Calves to £400 (79) B&W av £50.03 Cont av £332.8 Native av £184.75 Good trade for calves today with first quality calves selling away well. Johnny Moon from Wigglesworth topped the days trade with a run of ten calves peaking at £400 and all his bulls £370+ today. Black and Whites were not quite as fiery as last week but still good to sell with again first quality knocking on into £60+ were as second quality were penalised.
