Elvis rocks to 9,000gns top price at Skipton pedigree Beltex highlight A top call of 9,000gns, 10 sales at 2,000gns or more, much improved averages on the year and a 90% clearance rate, combined to make the Beltex Sheep Society’s annual sale of registered rams and females at Skipton Auction Mart a runaway success. Robert Price claims 1,500gns top price at Skipton Jacob highlight A top call of 1,500gns was seen at the Jacob Sheep Society’s 45th annual Northern Area sale at Skipton Auction Mart – and it fell to one of the breed’s best-known names, Welshman Robert Price, who runs the Pentre flock in Churchstoke, Powys. (Sat, Sept 5) His January-born 4-horn twin ewe lamb by the Scottish-bred Kinloch Franco, out of an Edingale dam by Blackbrook Don’t Push It, found a new home north of the border when falling to Ewen McMillan, who runs Luruha Jacobs near Glasgow.

Kevin Evans top dog again with two five-figure sales at Skipton Donal Mullaney sets new world record price with unbroken pup for second time A brace of leading five-figure calls and yet another new world record price for an unbroken puppy were established at Skipton Auction Mart’s second virtual working sheep dog sale this month – and, like the first online fixture in July, hitting the headlines again were the same vendors.

Stage set for CCM Skipton 2020 pedigree sheep season Skipton Auction Mart says it is looking forward to a successful 2020 pedigree sheep sales season despite Covid-19 restrictions still not allowing shows for most pedigree livestock to be staged, though some are allowed with safe distancing judging in place. Additionally, a number of live sales will again be enhanced by an online remote bidding facility, which has proved increasingly popular since first introduced post-lockdown.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 8563 Head, Overall ave £67.95 CCM Auctions held their fortnightly catalogue sale of store lambs at Skipton on Wednesday where 8,563 head were forward, a good entry considering the wet weather seen this last 48 hours.

Skipton store lamb trade better than expected The busy sheep sales season is now getting into full swing at Skipton Auction Mart and another solid turnout of 8,563 head went under the hammer at the latest fortnightly Wednesday store lambs fixture. (Wed, Aug 26) An overall selling average of £67.95 per head was recorded, which was better than expected when bearing in mind current fluctuating prime trade, coupled with the fact that there were far more medium to long keep lambs in the entry than seen at previous sales, a clear sign of more twin and triplet lambs on the ground.

SHEARLING GIMMERS - TUESDAY 25TH AUGUST 2020

Forward: 4,893 head of Gimmer Shearlings A large show of Gimmer Shearlings forward today for our Annual Show & Sale and all classes got away to a fast selling trade with the 4893 head averaging £152.05 across all breeds. The morning set off with Continental and Suffolk crosses sold first, and the quality types and strong Texel cross Mules were easily sold with prices around £10 up on the year as buyers were keen for this class of sheep, but the commercial types of sheep were forward in greater numbers and not as keenly sought.

Inaugural Jersey sale at CCM with Kivells breaks records as Laceys dominate The widely anticipated first coloured breeds sale at CCM Skipton did not disappoint, with a new auction centre dairy record price established when the much admired VG88-2yrs headliner, Cherryview Legal M Lacey, was knocked down to an undisclosed buyer for 5,500gns, with her yearling daughter by Citation heading to the same home for 2,200gns. (Monday, Aug 24)

GIMMER SHEARLING PRESS - TUESDAY 25TH AUGUST 2020

Solid start for CCM Skipton’s 2020 breeding sheep season Skipton Auction Mart’s opening prize show and sale of gimmer shearlings, the traditional launch fixture for its annual breeding sheep season, attracted an increased turnout of 4,893 head, over 1,850 more than 2019, with all classes getting away to a fast selling trade when averaging £152.05 per head across all breeds, again a significant increase on the previous year’s £139.84. (Tuesday, August 25)

BREEDING SHEEP - FRIDAY 21ST AUGUST 2020

SALE OF BREEDING SHEEP & RAMS. Forward: 543 Breeding Sheep inc 71 Rams. Another decent entry for our regular early season breeding sheep sales with ewes and shearlings selling once again to a very fast trade. Suffolk and Continental Ewes saw strong prices, whilst Mules of all classes found a very ready following. A decent number of rams on offer as this early sale continues to grow in stature, and there was an offering of good tups for commercial use with the better end on the day £300 to £500.
