One of Skipton’s famous fibreglass sheep returns to the fold at auction One of the original members of Skipton’s famous flock of decorated fibreglass sheep has made a welcome return to the town after being bought in an online auction by local town centre shop owner and artist Helen Peyton. Mrs Peyton, who runs The Magpie in Albion Square, had to go well into three figures to bag the sheep, one of 25 life size sculptures commissioned by Skipton Town Council to capture the feel of a Dales sheep as part of its highly successful tourism-boosting Flock to Skipton initiative in 2010.

Youthful quality in demand by a discerning crowd at CCM for the Wharfedale Dispersal Without doubt dairy sales at CCM Skipton have started with a bang in August. Buyers old and new vied to secure quality stock of all ages and types from both new vendors in the fortnightly dairy sale; as well as long-established regular sellers, and a first-class offering from Howard Blackburn and family, of nearby Storiths, who sold the milking portion of their long established Wharfedale Holstein herd. (Monday, Aug 10)

LIVESTOCK ONLY - SATURDAY 8TH AUGUST 2020

CCM Auctions Conducted their Monthly Sale of Stirks, Weaned Calves and Young Store Cattle. 70 Heifers, 45 steers, 11 bulls, 2 in-calf cows. Friesian bulls set off to a flying trade with a small entry of 15 forward all around the 3-7 months the breed avg came to £446. Blue Steers again a nice trade with a good show of 4-10 months mainly forward.

Numbers and selling averages soar at Skipton store lamb opener Skipton Auction Mart’s opening store lamb sale of the 2020 season began on a real high note, with a major rise in both entry numbers and trading levels. (Wed, July 15) As in past years, the annual highlight offered a wide selection of lambs for short, medium and long-term keep, and the 4,302 head successfully sold represented an increase of over 1,200 sheep on the year, while the overall selling average of £73.54 per head itself showed a solid rise of £8.95 on 2019.
