MULTI BREED RAM PRESS - 1ST & 2ND OCTOBER 2020

New format two-day multi-breeds sheep fixture at Skipton produces multiple highlights There were multiple ovine highlights at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual multi-breeds sale of 754 head of rams and females, minus the usual shows and staged over two days to assist with Covid-19 safe distancing regulations, a new format that was well received. Top call of 1,700gns fell to a Texel shearling ram from regular Red Rose vendor Procters Farm. (Thursday and Friday, Oct 1&2)

Lleyn Sheep have received strong interest this year at the society sales, and todays sale at Skipton was no exception, with females in high demand, and rams receiving a solid trade.

North Craven Dugdales in fine form at Skipton Lleyn sheep highlight The Lleyn Sheep Society’s annual sale at Skipton Auction Mart – as usual the final society sale of the season – saw females in high demand, with rams also receiving a solid trade. (Thus, Oct 1) Interest was particularly high for shearling ewes, with five pens achieving £200 or more, the top two making £205 per head. The first, a pen of ten, came from local breeders John and James Dugdale, who run the Borrins flock at Stackhouse, Settle, selling to S Lord, Oldham, the second a pen of nine from Welsh breeders E&D Jones, of Machynlleth, sold to A Hartley, Blackshaw Head.

Threshfield Kitchings clinch top price double at Skipton BFL highlight The Kitching family, from Grisedale Farm, Threshfield, notched up a notable top price double with a shearling ram and ram lamb, both well-bred sons of their prolific and much utilised Smearsett H8 tup, at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual show and sale of Blue Faced Leicester rams and females. Flying trade throughout at CCM Skipton Monday market Another busy Monday at Skipton Auction Mart produced flying trade across all sections, none more so than the fortnightly Craven Dairy Auction, when eight fresh heifers from regular vendors all sold readily to a solid overall average of £2,011.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 8735 Head, Overall av £78.42 Another large entry of lambs with 8,735 head sold levelling at £78.42 across the board, with trade easily up three notches on the previous fortnight for all classes, with the sale including a large entry of hill lambs with 2200 Mule/Masham Wethers and 500 Horned Wethers in the entry, together with the second sale of drawn Suffolk & Continental Gimmer Lambs.

Second Prize Show & Sale of North of England Mule Ewe Lambs on behalf of NEMSA Members. Forward: 6,185 head at an overall average of £102.26 per head (+25.03 on 2019) CCM Auctions held their 2nd Fortnightly Sale of North of England Mule Gimmer Lambs on behalf of members of NEMSA on Tuesday at Skipton. There was a very good level quality of lambs for this years second sale, with several pens of genuine tuppers still being present, but in the main lambs were of a decent size for running and looking in nice order.

Gimmer lamb trade soars again at 2nd Skipton NEMSA highlight Threshfield Kitchings over the moon to claim first-ever 10’s title Trade stepped up yet another gear when the 6,185 gimmer lambs successfully sold at Skipton Auction Mart’s second annual fixture for members of the North of England Mule Sheep Association (NEMSA) levelled at an impressive £102.26 per head, an increase of £25.03 on the year. Premium prices were once more seen for top end pens. (Tues, Sept 22)

CCM Auctions conducted the Northern Area Texel Sheep Breeders Club Sale at Skipton Mart on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th September 2020. As ever, this sale was witness to some fantastic runs of sheep for both pedigree and commercial use, and trade was fast for the well fancied types resulting in both shearling ram and shearling ewe averages seeing sizable rises on the year.
