Jowetts claim first Skipton prime cattle championship There was a first-ever championship success at Skipton Auction Mart’s October prime cattle show for Stephen and Nichola Jowett, of Lower West Scholes Farm, Queensbury. (Mon, Oct 7) The couple secured the title with their first prize heifer, a black Limousin-cross-British Blue which had been shown on the regional show circuit all summer by their 19-year-old granddaughter, Fiona, picking up multiple rosettes, among them the Keighley Show championship.

Kevin Huck aged ram champion and £2,200 top price at Skipton Swaledale showcase Local breeder Kevin Huck, of Knowle Bank Farm, Bordley, put in another outstanding performance at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual evening fixture for registered Swaledale rams. (Mon, Oct 7) He consigned the first prize aged ram for the third year in succession, thought to be the first time such a high profile hat-trick has been achieved at the breed highlight, before seeing his 3 shear progress to become overall show champion,

SWALEDALE FEMALES - SATURDAY 5TH OCTOBER 2019

CCM Skipton Swaledale females up by £15 per head on year Skipton Auction Mart’s annual Saturday Swaledale females highlight for gimmer shearlings and draft ewes attracted an entry of 2,671 head, which sold to an overall average of £86.39, a solid rise of £15.10 on the year. Gimmer shearlings levelled at £104.93, genuine draft age 3 crop ewes at £80.52. (Oct 5) Trade was said to be very sensible, with ewes in nice condition and buyers keener than the previous year, buoyed by a more positive North of England Mule lamb trade and plentiful grazing.

SWALEDALE EWES & SHEARLINGS - SATURDAY 5TH OCTOBER 2019

Forward: 2,671 head. Overall Average was £86.39 (+£15.10) CCM Auctions conducted their Annual Sale of Swaledale Draft Ewes and Gimmer Shearlings at Skipton Mart on Saturday. Trade was very sensible with ewes in nice condition, and buyers in better form than last year buoyed by a more positive Mule lamb trade and grazing plentiful.

CCM Auctions held their Annual Sale of Rams at Skipton Mart on Friday covering the main sales for Suffolks, Blue Texels and Zwartbles together with second sales for Texels, Charollais, Beltex and other breeds. Ellis Bros claim top call with 2,400gns Beltex shearling ram at CCM Skipton multi-breeds highlight Procters Farm in peak form with another Texel champion Skipton Auction Mart’s annual multi-breeds sheep showcase for pedigree and pure-bred rams and females attracted another solid turnout of 897 head, with quality in abundance and sheep to suit all tastes and pockets. PEDIGREE LLEYN - THURSDAY 3RD OCTOBER 2019

Annual Sale of Lleyn Sheep. Top price was achieved by Miss C Nicholson Lot 2 selling for 2000gns. Champion was Mr H Goldie with a shearling ram Lot 24.

South Craven Forts secure 2,000gns top price ram at Skipton pedigree Lleyn highlight North & East England Lleyn Sheep Breeders Club chairman, Steeton’s Graham Fort, who runs the Brightonhouse pedigree flock with his wife Mandy, went to 2,000gns to secure the top price performer at the Lleyn Sheep Society’s annual registered show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 2ND OCTOBER 2019

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 7455 Head, Overall av £55.56 Store Lambs would get away reasonably well today with a decent ringside of buyers all sale looking to secure sheep. Lowland lambs were a mixed selection, smart Beltex types in the 70’s and 80’s topping £86.50 from T&C Robinson of Tosside, and £86 from Frankland Farms in Rathmell.

BFL RAMS & FEMALES - TUESDAY 1ST OCTOBER 2019

There was a new format this year as CCM Auctions held their Annual Sale of BFL Rams & Females at Skipton Mart which was held on Tuesday evening. The sale attracted breeders from a large area, many attracted by the opportunity to purchase stock from the breeders responsible for quality runs of Mule lambs at the Skipton NEMSA sales. 14 sheep achieved 4 figure bids with Joe & Nancy Throup’s Chelker flock taking top price at 4,000gns with a shearling ram by their J1 Asby Hall. The ram took second prize at the Skipton branch progeny show in August and attracted a successful bid from Robin Booth and went home to join their Smearcett flock. The champion sheep on the night, the 1st prize Ewe Lamb presented by WM Hutchinson & Sons, Kirkby Redgate was by the £18,000 Shafthill K8. This smart lamb sold locally to EW&JR Parkinson at Dunsop Bridge. (Full report to follow)

BREEDING SHEEP - TUESDAY 1ST OCTOBER 2019

2209 Forward: 335 Shearlings, 471 2shr to Correct Ewes and 1403 Broken Mouthed Ewes CCM Auctions fortnightly sale of breeding sheep produced another good clearance for a more commercial show of shearlings with Texel crosses averaging £121 and Mules £118. Older Ewes again produced strong interest as has been the case for most of this season. Best younger sheep £100 or more, correct full mouth sheep £85-£100 and broken mouthed lowland sheep in the 60’s and 70’s, Mule to £82 for a strong pen from A&ED Booth, Giggleswick.

Craven Dairy Auction (12 head) A healthy show of milkers were highlighted by a tremendous heifer presented by Peter Baul of Bishop Thornton topping the days sale with a tremendous Pedigree heifer selling for £2050 to regular supporter Brian Blezard of Ribchester. Brian Moorhouse of Bell Busk once again headlined with another Pedigree Heifer giving 32kg selling for £1950 to the same purchaser.
