CALF SHOW - MONDAY 19TH NOVEMBER 2015

69 Rearing Calves to £460 B&W av £71.87 Cont av £341.76 Native av £311.4 David Smith of Bents Farm, Sutton In Craven took the top honours at the Autumn Show and Sale of Calves. With a strong show of top end calves Richard Umpleby’s job was not easy, with some deliberation the sweet 5 ½ week old calf from the Smith family took his eye and took the top rosette and went to the day’s top price of £460.

STORE CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 14TH OCTOBER 2015

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 605 head of cattle Comprising: 67 Young Feeding Bulls, 497 Bullocks & Heifers, 25 Breeding Cattle & 16 Pedigree Bulls Another large show of cattle presented for sale at Skipton this week which has been the case all summer and Autumn, with Young Feeding Bulls a decent trade, as were smart stores, strong cattle and yearling bullocks. However anything second quality, regardless of age was certainly less money than the previous sale.

BREEDING SHEEP - TUESDAY 13TH OCTOBER 2015

FORWARD: 2,029 Breeding Sheep & Rams including Annual Sale of Lleyn Breeding sheep and Gimmer Lambs, Fortnightly Sale of Breeding Sheep and Third Sale of Swaledale Ewes. A typical mixed entry for the time of year with a few pens sailing nicely away, but buyers also looking for some late season value for money as well. Horned ewes were mainly correct below sheep or feeders and sold to a solid trade when compared to fat, whilst the Lleyn sheep received a mixed reception, young strong sheep a decent trade, but ewe lambs difficult to place.

Forward: 62 Prime cattle comprising 9 Clean Cattle (under 30 mos) & 53 Cast Cattle. 4,775 Prime Sheep comprising 4371 Prime Lambs, 404 Cast Ewes & Rams. 100 Rearing Calves. 34 Dairy Cattle. 3 Loads of produce.

DAIRY & CALVES - MONDAY 12TH OCTOBER 2015

Craven Dairy Auction (34 head) A straight run of 34 dairy cattle in the market today with 13 in milk and 21 Youngstock. Despite the small show of milk today enough buyers were present to make them a handy trade with regular Robin Jennings of South Stainley taking the top honours and top price today at £1850 for his 2nd prize heifer. Brian Moorhouse of Hesper Farm took the Reserve Champion position with a 2nd Calver from his pedigree Aireburn Herd selling to the highest cow price of £1650. Ian Parkinson of Barden also received a good trade with his two home bred cows selling at £1400 and £1500 respectively.

SWALEDALE RAMS - MONDAY 12TH OCTOBER 2015

Forward: 70 Registered Swaledale Rams CCM Auctions conducted the Annual Sale of Swaledale Rams at Skipton on Monday evening. A great show of rams attracted a very large crowd from a wide area to this well established annual sale and trade was strong as a result. As ever at Skipton a big strong ram found a ready market with 7 rams selling a four figure prices. The sale leading price of 1,500gns was paid for the champion ram on the night, consigned by John and Neil Cowperthwaite of Howith Farm, this shearling sired by a Peter Lightfoot, Gillside out of a Catlow sired ewe was purchased by Mr F Macaskill, Killin.

PEDIGREE CHAROLLAIS - SATURDAY 10TH OCTOBER 2015

66 Pedigree Charollais Females on behalf of The BCSS Females were in strong demand at the British Charollais Sheep Sale held at Skipton on Saturday, with a strong clearance rate, the best seen for several years. A strong commercial trade underpinned the day, whilst there were some higher top end prices. Charles Marwood’s Foulrice flock twice hit 1,000gns, the first for the days champion. This strong shearling by Langstone K2, a Wraycastle i-pod son, she sold carrying triplets to Lowereye Neils Favourite to DB Roberts of Shrewsbury.

GIMMER LAMBS PRESS - TUESDAY 6TH OCTOBER

Ewe lambs shine at annual Skipton highlight It was ‘Ladies Day’ at Skipton Auction Mart, when ewe lambs from the region’s leading sheep farmers were on parade for their annual fixture, which attracted another large entry of 5,648 head, more than 300 up on the previous year. (Tues, Oct 6) There were four breed shows – the third seasonal turnout for North of England Mule gimmer lambs, along with others for Masham, Dales Mule and Swaledale gimmers.

Amy Bradley lands her first Skipton prime cattle championship Amy Bradley, of Hartwith, Harrogate, landed her first-ever prime cattle championship at Skipton Auction Mart’s October show and sale, with brothers Clive and Trevor Robinson, of Tosside, lifting the prime lamb title for the second month in succession.
