Lancaster family champions at CCM Skipton Christmas carcase showcase with first-ever entry Cropper Family Butchers bags both champion and reserve The Lancaster sheep farming family - husband and wife, Ian and Mary, and son. Richard – won the supreme championship with their first-ever entry in the annual lamb carcase competition staged as part of Skipton Auction Mart’s 12th annual Christmas primestock shows and sales. Skipton Auction Mart festive charity showcase nets record amount Charity auctions staged alongside Skipton Auction Mart’s 12th annual Christmas primestock shows this year realised over £5,000 for several charities, a record amount. (Sunday, December 1) As in previous years, the main beneficiaries are Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope, Brooklands Community Special School in Skipton and national farming charity, the Addington Fund, who will all receive a share of the £4,262 raised to date, with potentially more still to come in. Between them, the three charities have shared windfalls running into many thousands of pounds since the event’s inception.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 27TH NOVEMBER 2019

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs, Feeding Ewes & Breeding Sheep Forward: 4909 Head, Comprising 4,681 Store Lambs (av £60.79) and 308 Ewes, Rams and Gimmer Lambs. A very good show of lambs today with trade very similar to last fortnight. More weathered lambs in today’s sale with more long keep lambs too. Strong first cross lambs around the £70 mark with some cracking Beltex lambs selling for £80-£96. Horned lambs were also good to sell, best end making either side of £50 into mid £40s with the next grade down £30-£40. Dalesbred lambs selling well with a top price of £49 from JA Stoney & Son for a pen of tups.

REARING CALVES CHRISTMAS SHOW - MONDAY 25TH NOVEMBER 2019

Rearing Calves to £450 (134) B&W av £60.76 Cont av £286 Native av £174 Cracking show of calves today with the largest number forward in a while! All sorts a flying trade with 21 active buyers ringside. Buyers travelling far and wide for the show, coming from Lincolnshire, Sheffield, Middlesbrough and Hull. The show was Judged in the very capable hands of Graham Stainthorpe.

Hartley family Blue bull calf champion at CCM Skipton Christmas showcase Skipton Auction Mart’s annual Christmas show season began with the seasonal rearing calf highlight, the 134 dairy-bred youngsters, the highest entry all year, achieving 100% clearance and producing flying trade for all classes. (Mon, Nov 25)

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 518 head of cattle Comprising: 514 Feeding Cattle (73 Young Bulls, 55 Beef Feeding Cows & Bulls, 386 Bullocks & Heifers) & 4 Breeding Cattle. Feeding Bulls – Strong Bulls were in short supply and those looking for forward cattle were forced to dip into the older end of 2019 born cattle. Jan/Feb born bulls were to £1060 for a pen of 4 Sim x from RD Elliott of Tadcaster. Best of the Autumn Bulls were JA&M Wade & Son of Cononley selling 12 month old Lim to £1140. Bulls over 13months were to £1100 for a Sept born Lim from J&G Huck, Buckden.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs, Feeding Ewes & Breeding Sheep Forward: 5,574 Head, Comprising 4,854 Store Lambs (av £63.18) and 720 Ewes, Rams and Gimmer Lambs. A great sale at CCM Skipton on Wednesday with trade on a high note following the rise in prime lamb trade, and there was a sale average for 4,854 Store Lambs of £63.18 per head. Good lambs for short to medium keep were in high demand, and Mule/Masham Wethers were especially good to sell with strongest end in the £70’s up to £75.50, Mules av £64.58 and Mashams £68.27.

DAIRY & CALVES - MONDAY 11TH NOVEMBER 2019

Craven Dairy Auction (7 head) A cracking Craven Dairy Auction today with a larger show on offer and a good ringside of buyers from both East and West sides of the hill looking for milk. The champion in milk animal came from EJ Fort’s “Silmoor” herd from Silsden Moor. Silmoor Maurice Peach, is from what was described as a solid cow family that milks well and sired by a homebred bull out of their Denmire Marie family. Calved 16 days and giving 35 litres, spirited bidding saw her get away to a sale price of £2180.

PEDIGREE SHORTHORN CATTLE - WENDESDAY 6TH NOVEMBER 2019

Beef Shorthorn The Meonside Herd of David and Tom Bradley enjoyed an excellent debut at the Annual Sale of Pedigree Beef Shorthorns held at Skipton. Meonside Hyacinth Misty had previously stood 2nd at the Royal Highland Show and 4th at the National Shorthorn Show before a third prize in todays intermediate junior heifer class. Bred from one of the best breeding cows in herd, Meonside Hyacinth and by Elliot Salute the March 2018 heifer sold for 6000gn to T Staunton of County Galway.

Aberdeen Angus Pedigree Aberdeen Angus females were on parade at CCM Auctions Autumn sale on Wednesday. A leading sale price of 2600gns was recorded for the Carrington Park Time on B7 daughter Yearsley Royal Lady S257 sold with her Bull calf by Rawburn Makka Pakka. She sold to Messrs Robinson Bedale. John Walsh sold Buckhurst Jury Erica S184 which is by Blelack Entertainer, and along with her Bull calf which was by a homebred bull Buckhurst Endeavour itself back to Rawburn Boss Hogg out of the 10000gns Rawburn Ebony, the outfit sold for 2000gns to Messrs Raper, Thorne.

Yearsley herd claims 2,600gns top price at Skipton Aberdeen-Angus females sale The Yearsley herd of North Yorkshire husband and wife, Adrian and Penny Johnson, was responsible for the 2,600gns top price performer at The Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society’s second annual autumn show and sale of pedigree females at Skipton Auction Mart. (Wed, Nov 6) It fell to Yearsley Royal Lady S257, an April, 2016, AI son of Carrington Park Time on B7, out of the Blelack Jury daughter, Wall Royal Lady H663, an 11,000gns acquisition by the Johnsons at the Shropshire-based Wall herd dispersal sale in 2011 and who arrived with her bull calf, since well sold into the Cogent breeding programme.
