Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 7455 Head, Overall av £55.56 Store Lambs would get away reasonably well today with a decent ringside of buyers all sale looking to secure sheep. Lowland lambs were a mixed selection, smart Beltex types in the 70’s and 80’s topping £86.50 from T&C Robinson of Tosside, and £86 from Frankland Farms in Rathmell.

There was a new format this year as CCM Auctions held their Annual Sale of BFL Rams & Females at Skipton Mart which was held on Tuesday evening. The sale attracted breeders from a large area, many attracted by the opportunity to purchase stock from the breeders responsible for quality runs of Mule lambs at the Skipton NEMSA sales. 14 sheep achieved 4 figure bids with Joe & Nancy Throup’s Chelker flock taking top price at 4,000gns with a shearling ram by their J1 Asby Hall. The ram took second prize at the Skipton branch progeny show in August and attracted a successful bid from Robin Booth and went home to join their Smearcett flock. The champion sheep on the night, the 1st prize Ewe Lamb presented by WM Hutchinson & Sons, Kirkby Redgate was by the £18,000 Shafthill K8. 2209 Forward: 335 Shearlings, 471 2shr to Correct Ewes and 1403 Broken Mouthed Ewes CCM Auctions fortnightly sale of breeding sheep produced another good clearance for a more commercial show of shearlings with Texel crosses averaging £121 and Mules £118. Older Ewes again produced strong interest as has been the case for most of this season. Best younger sheep £100 or more, correct full mouth sheep £85-£100 and broken mouthed lowland sheep in the 60’s and 70’s, Mule to £82 for a strong pen from A&ED Booth, Giggleswick.

Throup Chelker flock clinches centre record 4,000gns top price at CCM BFL highlight A new centre record breed price of 4,000gns (£4,200) was recorded at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual show and sale of Bluefaced Leicester rams and females. (Tuesday, Oct 1st)

Craven Dairy Auction (12 head) A healthy show of milkers were highlighted by a tremendous heifer presented by Peter Baul of Bishop Thornton topping the days sale with a tremendous Pedigree heifer selling for £2050 to regular supporter Brian Blezard of Ribchester. Brian Moorhouse of Bell Busk once again headlined with another Pedigree Heifer giving 32kg selling for £1950 to the same purchaser.

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 600 head of cattle. Comprising: 557 Feeding Cattle (79 Young Bulls, 60 Beef Feeding Cows & Bulls, 418 Bullocks & Heifers) & 43 Breeding Cattle.

Second Prize Show & Sale of North of England Mule Ewe Lambs on behalf of NEMSA Members. Forward: 6,470 head at an overall average of £77.23 per head (+5.51 on 2018) CCM Auctions held their 2nd Fortnightly Sale of North of England Mule Gimmer Lambs on behalf of members of NEMSA on Tuesday at Skipton where a tidy entry of lambs sold away nicely on the year whilst still being sensibly priced for all concerned.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 7,091 Head, Overall av £58.52 Another healthy show of lambs for todays Store lamb sale with again over 7,000 lambs going under the hammer. Today’s sale included the annual show and sale of horned wether and hill lambs which found the Newbould family of Dallowgill coming out victorious with there strong Swale wether lambs selling for £43 and heading to wales with a Swaledale wether average of £34.73. Westalls presented the first prize hill lambs with their pen of Cheviot lambs selling for £52.

Wether lambs take centre stage at CCM Skipton This year’s wether lambs took centre stage at Skipton Auction Mart for their main show day of the year, with four classes for Swaledale, Dalesbred and other hill breeds. (Wed, Sept 18) Successful in the Swaledale show class was upland hill custodian Paul Newbould, of Potter Lane Farm, Dallowgill, with a pen of 50 lambs reared entirely on heather moorland in the Nidderdale Area of Natural Beauty. Mr Newbould keeps some 800 ewes, which go to both pedigree Swaledale and Bluefaced Leicester rams, the latter servicing the requirements of his North of England Mule flock. The class victors sold at a section-topping £43 per head to a regular Welsh buyer.

Cross-border victors at 2nd Skipton shearling gimmer highlight The two show classes at Skipton Auction Mart’s second annual shearling gimmer fixture fell to exhibitors from both sides of the border, who were both stepping up after finishing runners-up in the same sections at last year’s corresponding fixture. (Tues, Sept 17) The red rosette-winning North of England Mules from brothers Peter, Edward and Robert Fox, of Fox Farms in Clitheroe, were a pen of ten purchased as gimmer lambs at Skipton’s 2018 NEMSA autumn highlights.
