BEEF FEEDING COW PRESS - WEDNESDAY 17TH APRIL 2019

Bordley Green success at CCM Skipton feeding cow show A nine-year-old Limousin-cross cow from John Stephenson, of Bordley Green Farm, Bordley, won first prize in the annual Spring show for beef-bred feeding cows at Skipton Auction Mart. (Wed, April 17) The home-bred mother of eight calves was sold only because she could not be got in-calf again by the Upper Wharfedale breeder, who has won multiple titles in the cattle show arena at his local mart. His latest frontrunner, shown by his father, also John, sold for a section top of £1,230 to Stephen Eastwood, of Emley, Huddersfield.

BREEDING SHEEP - MONDAY 15TH APRIL 2019

705 Breeding Sheep – 240 Ewes with 465 Lambs A larger show of 705 breeding sheep, comprising 240 Ewes with 465 lambs at foot, saw a very sharp trade for all Suffolk and Continental outfits, and very best Mule outfits in strong demand, but a commercial Mule outfit still looks value for money compared to some others. At the top end of things it was Rosy Dunn from York who had chief price at £275 for a pen of 5 Texel Shlgs with twins, and £245 for 5 Texel 2-3crop Ewes with twins. Andrew Throup from Silsden made £255 of 10 Texel 2shr ewes with twins, and £230 of a pen of 9 with 18.

EASTER LAMB PRESS - MONDAY 15TH APRIL 2019

Robert Towers triumphs again at CCM Easter Spring lambs showcase North Craven’s Robert Towers won the high profile Easter prime lambs show at Skipton Auction Mart for the second year in succession. (Mon, Apr 15) Mr Towers, who farms with his wife, Jackie at Greenlands Farm, Ingleton, saw his first prize home-bred single 53kg Suffolk-cross Continental ram lamb, by a tup bought out of Skipton two years earlier, progress to become champion at the seasonal showcase. It again attracted leading retail butchers from a wide area seeking the pick of the region’s Spring lambs for their customers’ Easter tables from this coming weekend, with lamb roasts in particular remaining highly popular.

Sharp trade at Skipton breeding sheep sale Now in full swing, Skipton Auction Mart’s breeding sheep season attracted a larger turnout of 705 head, comprising 240 ewes with 465 lambs at foot, for the latest weekly Monday sale. (Apr 15) It produced a very sharp trade for all Suffolk and Continental outfits, with the very best Mule outfits also in strong demand and a commercial Mule outfit still looking value for money compared to some of the others.

PEDIGREE BEEF SEASON - MAY 2019

Countdown commences to CCM Skipton 2019 pedigree beef show season The 2019 pedigree beef show and sale season at Skipton Auction Mart begins on Wednesday, May 1, with the traditional pipe-opener, the annual ‘Blue Wednesday’ showcase. The fixture, for up-and-coming breeding bulls, the majority ready for work, along with breeding females, is again expected to create keen interest among pedigree, commercial, beef and dairy breeders. Catalogue entries closed last Monday. (Apr 8)

DAIRY & CALF PRESS - MONDAY 8TH APRIL 2019

Improved trade for rearing calves at CCM Skipton Increased interest at the ringside resulted in an improved trade for the 44 rearing calves at Skipton Auction Mart’s latest weekly Monday sale. (Mon, April 8) British Blues were once again to the fore, with Daniel Lancaster, of Horton-in-Craven, topping at £425 with a bull calf, followed by a brace of bulls from Fred Houseman, Church Farm Enterprises in Burton Leonard, at £415 and £410, creating a healthy section average of £338.

Also 396 Breeding Sheep (111 Ewes with 175 Lambs & 110 Geld Gimmer Hoggs). 44 Rearing Calves. 2 Dairy Cattle. 5 Loads of produce.

DAIRY & CALVES - MONDAY 8TH APRIL 2019

Rearing Calves to £425 (44) A handy show of calves this morning with certainly more interest ringside this week. British Blues once again to the fore with Daniel Lancaster topping at £425 with a cracking bull with church farm enterprises not far behind at £415 and £410 creating a helathy average of £338. Limousin calves from Hayton Stocks found a good gear also finding new homes at £390 and £340 for a bull and a heifer.

BREEDING SHEEP - MONDAY 8TH APRIL 2019

286 Breeding Sheep – 111 Ewes with 175 Lambs A decent show of sheep with lambs and a good trade throughout. Best outfits of twins £200 to £215, but strong outfits of singles £150 to £195. Commercial singles £120 to £140 and commercial twins £160-£190. More required each week now as more buyers come out looking for sheep. CALVES - MONDAY 1ST APRIL 2019

Rearing Calves to £375 (43) B&W av £99.44 Cont av £309.64 Native av £184 Handy show of calves this morning and despite a quiet ringside of buyers a good steady trade was seen for all on offer. Best bulls were maybe a touch easier on the week with Fred Houseman of Church Farm Enterprises topping at £375 with a respectable average of 323.64 for Blue bulls. A nice run of limousin’s from Pickersgills sold away to a top of £290.
