Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle. Forward: 933 head of cattle. Comprising: 817 Feeding Cattle (194 Young Bulls, 62 Beef Feeding Cows, 561 Bullocks & Heifers) & 116 Breeding Cattle inc 103 Pedigree Limousins Bulls & Females. A great day at Skipton today with a mart full of cattle and a buzz all sale long.

CRAVEN LIMOUSIN DAY - WEDNESDAY 15TH MAY 2019

A breed record of 10,000gns was established for the Limousin breed at the Craven Cattle Marts Ltd Craven Limousin Day. ‘Oddacres Oswald’ was presented by John & Claire Mason of Embsay at 12months of age being fully French bred by Linzo out of the cow Idee, having previously been placed 2nd in the NE Limousin Breeders Club herd competition in 2018. Oswald is a bull with extreme muscle and after standing 3rd in the Junior Bull class in the morning class, he went on to sell to Richard Sandham on behalf of Bradford Waste Traders.

Willy Barron bull reigns supreme at Northern Limousin Extravaganza A standout 14-month-old bull from County Durham breeder Willy Barron’s pedigree herd was crowned champion at the 2019 Northern Limousin Extravaganza (NLE), the opening day of Skipton Auction Mart’s annual two-day breed showcase. Second calver lands another Craven Dairy Auction title for Aireburn herd A second calver cow from the Aireburn herd of Brian and Judith Moorhouse at Hesper Farm, Bell Busk, picked up another Craven Dairy Auction championship for the couple – their fourth this year – at Skipton Auction Mart’s opening May show and sale. Forward: 47 Prime cattle comprising 31 Clean Cattle (under 30 mos), 1 Clean Cattle (over 30 mos) & 15 Cast Cattle. 1,879 Prime Sheep comprising 237 Spring Lamb, 1179 Prime Hoggs & 43 Mature Hoggs 420 & Cast Ewes & Rams. 60 Rearing Calves. 7 Dairy Cattle. 932 Breeding Sheep – 354 Ewes with 578 Lambs.

BREEDING SHEEP - MONDAY 13TH MAY 2019

Breeding Sheep – 354 Ewes and 578 Lambs Plenty of outfits about today, 354 in total, even though last week was the show day. Nice show of hoggs and lambs, although missing the strong quality of last week, the better sorts on the day made £170-£180 per outfit. Shearlings and young ewes in good demand with better 2-4crop Continentals with twins up around £200 per outfits, Mule £170-£180 per outfit for twins. Some outfits with stronger singles topping at £165, other better sorts £130 to £160. Todays sale included an entry of 60 Swaledale Ewes with Mule Lambs from CT Akrigg, topping at £140 with the majority making around £120. Good show again for next week, entries to the mart office by Friday Lunchtime please.

Rearing Calves to £480 (60) B&W av £62.88 Cont av £316.2 Native av £188.33 A nice show of calves a week before show week and a strong trade set also. Best Calves in the market came from James Cooper of Dacre with a couple of surplus Pure Limousin calves the best of which being a bull calf at 2 mths old selling for £480.

Elliott Hereford crowned Craven Native Day champion Fox Foot Angus claims 3,400gns top price Weardale husband and wife Hereford cattle aficionados Harry and Janet Elliott, who run the award-winning Cornriggs pedigree herd at Lowcornriggs Farm, Cowshill, scooped championship honours at Skipton Auction Mart’s fourth annual Craven Native Day show and sale. (Wed, May 8) The couple clinched the title with their first time shown Cornriggs 1 Red Knight, a home-bred 14-month-old son of Cornriggs 1 Super Guy (by Baldinnie 1 Carlton). The sire was only recently sold as a six-year-old, having been used successfully on the herd.

CALVES - MONDAY 6TH MAY 2019

Rearing Calves to £445 (40) B&W av £101.5 Cont av £317.33 Native av £178.33 Blues into top gear again today with Brian Wellock presenting a tremendous blue bull on behalf of his son James of Seat House Farm, Eshton which sold for the sale high of £445 and is on it’s way to hull. A run of cracking blues from Joss Lancaster of Horton in Craven sold to £430 three times, £425, £400 and £395 and also topping the heifers at £330. Right through blue bulls were good to sell with a section average of £383.75. Blue heifers not quite as potent today with a show not just the standard of last fortnight despite this plenty faces were present to produce a respectable average of £255.88.
