Another prime time Skipton double for Keelham Farm Shop A West Yorkshire farm shop is well on its way to buying every single prime cattle champion at Skipton Auction Mart’s monthly shows in 2014 – and is not that far behind in purchasing the monthly prime lamb champions. James Robertshaw, co-owner of Keelham Farm Shop in Brighouse and Denholme Road, Thornton, Bradford, made it an unprecedented clean sweep of monthly prime cattle title winners so far this year when securing the title winner.

SWALEDALE RAMS - MONDAY 6TH OCTOBER 2014 PRESS

Nelson nets Skipton Swaledale ram title While a robust showing of 96 Swaledale rams were on parade for their annual evening show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart, trade was not up to the levels seen in recent years. There was a shortage of quality older tups, which are usually a feature of the sale, while demand for shearlings was very selective.

SWALEDALE SHEEP - SATURDAY 4TH OCTOBER

ANNUAL SHOW & SALE OF SWALEDALE EWES & GIMMER SHEARLINGS Forward: 3,579 head. Overall Average was £121.44 (+£29.47on 2013 £91.97) CCM Auctions conducted their Annual Sale of Swaledale Draft Ewes and Gimmer Shearlings at Skipton Mart on Saturday. After a wonderful season weather wise sheep were shown in good order and were generally stronger on the year. The quality of sheep at this sale continues to get better every year and the sheep on offer are a true credit to the producers of this area with strong well bodied ewes ideal for crossing in plentiful supply. MULTI BREED RAMS - FRIDAY 3RD OCTOBER

MARKET REPORT – FRIDAY 3rd OCTOBER 2014 CCM Auctions held their Annual Sale of Rams at Skipton Mart on Friday. With selling today spread across 4 sale rings the market was full to capacity with breeds covering the main sales for Blue Faced Leicesters, Suffolks, Hampshire Downs, Blue Texels and Zwartbles together with second sales for Texels, Charollais, Beltex, Cheviot and other breeds. The results of the shows and prices achieved are as below. Thanks to all our judges for giving their time and to sponsors who generously gave prizes. FORWARD: 678 HEAD OF REGISTERED LLEYN SHEEP CCM Auctions conducted the Annual Sale of MV Acc Registered LLeyn Sheep at Skipton Mart on Thursday for members of The Lleyn Sheep Society. Judging this year was in the hands of Mr Tim Riley and he awarded the following results:

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 1ST OCTOBER 2014

Forward: 7302 Head, Overall av £56.24 . Store Lambs were forward in large numbers for CCM’S fortnightly sale on Wednesday as this week’s busy schedule moved into its third day. 7,302 lambs sold today at an overall average £56.24 each and over 15,000 sheep have now been this week.

BREEDING SHEEP - TUESDAY 30TH SEPTEMBER 2014

Forward: 2,091 Breeding Sheep Comp 928 Shearlings & Correct Ewes and Annual sale of 1,163 Broken Mouth Ewes CCM Auctions held their Fortnightly Sale of Breeding Ewes together with The Annual Sale of Broken Mouth Ewes. Trade for young sheep was equal to that seen at the previous sale with shearlings of all breeds good to sell. The second part of todays’ sale comprised of the broken mouth correct below ewes, the sheep in this section were shown in far better bloom than last year, and this definitely had a positive effect on trade with prices much stronger on the year.

MARKET REPORT - MONDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER 2014 DAIRY

Craven Dairy Auction (44 head) A definite struggle for the most part but patience paid off with just a little push and shove strong heifers started to sell to a straight price. With an ever darkening cloud looming over the Dairy industry things looked ominous with the shippon full and over flowing, however a murmur of interest prior to the sale evolved into a good, straight trade with cows and heifers taking their time but eventually reaching a good price.

STORE CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER

Forward: 614 head of cattle Comprising: 87 Young Feeding Bulls, 8 Feeding Cows, 513 Bullocks & Heifers, 6 Breeding Cattle CCM Auctions conducted their fortnightly sale of store cattle at Skipton on Wednesday where another large entry was presented for sale. In the young feeding bull section a sharp trade was witnessed with young bulls of all breeds under 12 month showing an average of £877.60 and continental bulls of all ages levelling at £926.

BREEDING SHEEP - 2ND MULE GIMMER LAMBS

Second Prize Show & Sale of North of England Mule Ewe Lambs on behalf of NEMSA Members. Forward: 8,201 head at an overall average of £92.11 per head (+ £3.44 on 2013) CCM Auctions held their 2nd Fortnightly Sale of North of England Mule Gimmer Lambs on behalf of members of NEMSA on Tuesday at Skipton. An increased entry forward for sale saw a nice trade, with the overall average rising £3.44 to level at £92.11. The prize show on the morning of sale produced the following results.

THURSDAY 18TH & FRIDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER - PEDIGREE TEXEL

CCM Auctions conducted the Northern Area Texel Sheep Breeders Club Sale at Skipton Mart – The evening sale of Females saw James Houghton’s Tophill flock lead the prices with his Female Champion from the show a shearling gimmer bred from a ewe by Knock Orion and sired by the 16,000gn Milnbank Times Square which joined Mrs S Fitton of Kearsley for 1400gns. With an outstanding pen of sheep the Tophill Flock went on to achieve further success with shearling gimmers at 900,850 and 650gns.

WEDNESDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER 2014

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs (inc Suffolk & Cont x Gimmer Lambs) Forward: 7420 Head, Overall av £59.03 Included in todays’ sale was the Annual Special Show for pens of Continental and Suffolk Gimmer Lambs. Trade for these was good, with a large company of buyers keen to purchase the good clean headed types with a nice skin. The best end of both breeds over £90.
