STORE LAMBS PRESS - WEDNESDAY 21ST SEPTEMBER 2016

Bordley and Beckwithshaw farmers claim victory at wether lambs show John Tennant, of Bordley, took top prize in the Swaledale show at Skipton Auction Mart on Wednesday with a pen of 50 wether lambs. (SEPT 21) Raised on the moor at Low Bucker House Farm, Bordley, the Swaledales were sold for £41 per head. David Wilson, of Beckwithshaw, picked up the red rosette for his pen of 40 Dalesbreds, all got by home-bred tups, which fetched £43 per head.

Defending champions on song again at Skipton shearling gimmer show Defending champions successfully retained their titles at Skipton Auction Mart’s second annual shearling gimmer show and sale. (Tues, Sept 13). Thomas and Sheila Binns, of Hecklin Farm, Downham, Clitheroe, again presented the first prize pen of ten Mules, while David Lucas and Angela Nairey, of Bank Hey Farm, Blackburn, were once more responsible for the red rosette-winning pen of ten pure-bred Texels.

Craven Dairy Auction (55 head) A smaller show of milkers but a big show of followers today with the Final part of dispersal from David Leeming at Burnt Yates who brought 27 Incalf Heifers and 7 Maidens. In the Pre Sale show Frank Wrathall judged the two Heifers from Robert Crisp of Calton in Malhamdale to be Champion and Reserve with Brian Moorhouse of Bell Busk in 3rd with his heifer.

Crisp new calvers double tops at Craven Dairy Auction Malhamdale’s Robert Crisp, of Nelson Farm, Calton, bagged a championship and reserve championship double at Skipton Auction Mart’s opening September Craven Dairy Auction. (Mon, Sept 12) Show judge Frank Wrathall, of Gisburn, awarded principal honours to Mr Crisp’s first and second prize newly calven commercial heifers, both by a son of the renowned Genus dairy bull, Picston Shottle, and both out of daughters of another Genus sire, Garrison, who has been used to good effect by the Dales dairy farmer over the years.
