STORE LAMBS PRESS - WEDNESDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER 2016

Skipton gimmer lambs up almost £10 per head on year The 2,000-plus gimmer lambs on parade at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual mid-September store lamb show and sale offered a large company of buyers an unrivalled choice of both quality and size. They sold to an overall average of £75.77 per head, a marked improvement on the previous year’s £65.94.

Great Annual Show & Sale of North of England Mule Ewe Lambs on behalf of NEMSA Members. Forward: 7,357 head at an overall average of £96.84 per head (+£6.35 up) CCM Auctions conducted their opening Fortnightly Show and Sale of NEMSA members Mule Gimmer Lambs at Skipton Auction Mart, North Yorkshire on Tuesday. The pre-sale show was of a high quality with 21 pens of ten and 12 pens of 20 presented for showing.

Booth family championship and top price double at Skipton NEMSA opener The North Craven Smearsett flock of WA&A Booth, from Old Hall Farm, Feizor, above Settle, notched up a notable double when winning both the tens and 20s show classes at the high profile opening annual ewe lamb show and sale for members of the North of England Mule Sheep Association (NEMSA) at Skipton Auction Mart.

PEDIGREE BELTEX - SATURDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER 2016

On his first visit to Skipton, Stuart Wood from Skene, Aberdeenshire topped the sale with a Shearling Ram from his Woodies Flock. Rene de coquilanout sired by perfect received fierce bidding and fell at 4,000gns to Richard & Mark Ireland of Whalley. There was a host of prices either side of 2,000gns with the Rathbone Flock of Mike Davis, Eldroth next in line at 2,400gns. This ram lamb a son of Buckles Whizz Kid out of a homebred Dooley Nissan daughter sold to Neil & Janet McQuistin of Newton Stewart.

STORE CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 31ST AUGUST 2016

Forward: 535 head of cattle Comprising: 57 Young Feeding Bulls, 457 Bullocks & Heifers, 7 Feeding Cows & 14 Breeding Cattle Numbers nicely growing now as the autumn period approaches. Strong cattle were a sharp trade with Bullocks and short keep heifers especially good to sell. Smart younger cattle also holding value, whilst a few harder sorts were a shade easier.

DAIRY & CALVES - MONDAY 29TH AUGUST 2016

Craven Dairy Auction (51 head) The late August show and sale of Dairy Cattle welcomed the Yorkshire Holstein Club to the ring with a fine show of Pedigree and Commercial dairy cattle right the way down the Shippon. The Pedigree Championship Judged by Edward Fort was given to the Dalesbrad herd of Alan and Susan Throup of Higher House, Silsden Moor. Dalesbrad Destry Peony a superb heifer by the bull Scientific Destry was calved 28 days and giving 30kgs went on to sell for the day’s top price of £1950. The second prized heifer behind the Champion in class was a lovely 2yr old heifer from David and Dee Holmes of Castley with Holmedale Hercules Poppy 2, by the Butterfield Ingleview Hercules and boasting a lot of milk in its back pedigree this went on to sell for £1780 to Wick Williams of Nantwich. Brian Moorhouse of the Aireburn Herd took the next top price with his Aireburn Charlie Rilla heifer, the heifer whose dam a EX92 cow who has done 100 ton at Hesper Farm sold for £1700 to Brian Blezard of Ribchester.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 8,048 Head - Overall av £59.61 The largest entry of the season so far met with a grand trade that wasn’t much different to the previous sale. Suffolk’s and Texel’s again offered customers a good selection of short and longer keep lambs with both breeds averaging over £60. Tops of £82 per head for Texel’s from CG Dibb of Low Snowden, whilst Steven Wells of Monyash made £81 of the 1st prize pen of Beltex crosses, the 1,127 Beltex crosses averaged £65.10.

GIMMER SHEARLINGS - TUESDAY 23RD AUGUST 2016

Forward: 3,936 head of Gimmer Shearlings. CCM Auctions conducted their Great Annual Prize Sale of Gimmer Shearlings at Skipton on Tuesday. A nice show of sheep were presented to a full ringside of both regular local customers and new customers, some of whom had travelled some distance looking for quality types. Continental sheep were in great demand, especially the good sorts, Texels up £35 on average to stand at £155 across the board. Mule sheep were also better to sell on the year, and a healthy average of £138 was recorded. As a result the overall sale average was £18.24 up on the year to stand at £141.19. BREEDING SHEEP - FRIDAY 19TH AUGUST 2016

CCM Auctions held their special sale of breeding ewes (2 shear +) at Skipton on Friday together with rams. A nice entry of sheep attracted a large crowd all keen for sheep. Rams started the sale and found a good enquiry levelling at £350. Ewes were very keenly contested, David Coates presented a good run of Mule 2 shears selling at £155 twice, £150 and £145, whilst Thomas Binns sold the same at £150 and £145. John Wright of Airton sold three pens of Suffolk Mule Shearlings all at £140 each. Older ewes sold well, with broken mouth correct below ewes very good to sell.

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 426 head of cattle Comprising: 59 Young Feeding Bulls, 6 Beef Bred Grazing Cows, 342 Bullocks & Heifers, 19 Breeding cattle At CCM’s fortnightly cattle sale a sharp trade was seen across the board. Young Bulls started the sale with 8 of the 59 entries topping £1,200, topping at £1,400. The average across the board was £985.
