LLEYN GIMMERS - WEDNESDAY 5TH OCTOBER 2016

Caring for Life Lleyn gimmer lambs win first prize at Skipton show Pedigree Lleyn sheep from a flock run by Caring For Life, a Leeds-based registered Christian charity supporting homeless or vulnerable adults, picked up the winner’s red rosette at the annual show of Lleyn gimmer lambs at Skipton Auction Mart. (Tues, Oct 11)

CCM Auctions held their third fortnightly sale of gimmer lambs at Skipton Mart on Tuesday where 6,649 lambs were sold, representing an increase of just over 1,000 head on the year.

Premium cattle and smart lambs in demand on Skipton prime show day Keelham Farm Shop secures champions in both sections Champion at Skipton Auction Mart’s October prime cattle show was a 555kg British Blue-cross heifer from Jim Baines, of Trawden, which made 253.5p/kg, or £1,407, while the reserve was the red rosette-winning 590kg Blue-cross steer from James Drake, of Carleton, sold at 237.5p/kg or,£1,401. (Mon, Oct 3) Both again fell to James Robertshaw, buying as usual for his family-run Keelham Farm Shops in Skipton and Thornton.

ANNUAL SHOW & SALE OF SWALEDALE EWES & GIMMER SHEARLINGS Forward: 3,602 head. Overall Average was £108.09 (+£3.86) CCM Auctions conducted their Annual Sale of Swaledale Draft Ewes and Gimmer Shearlings at Skipton Mart on Saturday. A superb show of Swaledale Sheep was headed by the Champion pen from Stuart and Debbie Robinson of Foredale whose pen of 10 joined show co judge Mr Kevin Wilson.

MARKET REPORT – FRIDAY 30th SEPTEMBER 2016 CCM Auctions held their Annual Sale of Rams at Skipton Mart on Friday. With selling today spread across 4 sale rings the market was full to capacity with breeds covering the main sales for Blue Faced Leicesters, Suffolks, Hampshire Downs, Blue Texels and Zwartbles together with second sales for Texels, Charollais, Beltex and other breeds. The results of the shows and prices achieved are as below. Thanks to all our judges for giving their time and to sponsors who generously gave prizes. Forward: 1,136 head of Rams & Females.

HAMPSHIRE PRESS - FRIDAY 30TH SEPTEMBER 2016

Skipton Hampshire Down females peak at 750gns Hampshire Down ewes sold to a top of 750gns at the breed association’s north east sale in Skipton on Friday 30 September. Sale leader at 750gns was a Wilstrop bred shearling ewe by Whitehead Dylan from Graham and Judith Galbraith, Kendal, Cumbria, to R Melling, Scarisbrick, Lancashire. The Galbraiths offered a homebred shearling ewe by Graylen d’Artagnan at 550gns to Dutch breeder, Peter Beers, whilst they also sold a Clogherny Hogan sired ewe lamb at 420gns to AW Jones, Wymondham, Norfolk.

FORWARD: REGISTERED LLEYN SHEEP CCM Auctions conducted the Annual Sale of MV Acc Registered LLeyn Sheep at Skipton Mart on Thursday for members of The Lleyn Sheep Society. Champion was A Shearling Ram from The Fort Family of Brighton House, Steeton. Sired by Clansman, he went on to sell for 1,000gns to Tim Riley, Hebden Bridge. In a year when Lleyn Females have generally been less money, Skipton had a solid trade for Gimmer Shearlings to record an average on a par with last year. The clearance rate for rams was also good with the usual strong trade for commercial types. A poor show of ewe lambs this year were not up to the usual size seen at Skipton and the average of £77 reflects this.

STORE CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER 2016

Forward: 635 head of cattle Comprising: 70 Young Feeding Bulls, 522 Bullocks & Heifers, 15 Feeding Cows & 28 Breeding Cattle 635 cattle forward today with a again a strong number forward of Bullocks and Heifers forward today with young bullocks in particular receiving a good trade right through the sale. Alan Twell saw a fierce trade for his pen of 37 freshly weaned bullocks and heifers with John Lord of Heights farm also seeing some high prices for his 14-15mth old bullocks.

BREEDING SHEEP - TUESDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER 2016

Forward: 3,239 Breeding Sheep: Comp 2,075 Shearlings & Correct Ewes, Annual sale of 1,152 Broken Mouth Ewes & 12 Rams. CCM Auctions held their Fortnightly Sale of Breeding Ewes together with The Annual Sale of Broken Mouth Ewes. A mixed show of younger sheep saw trade for good smarter sorts along similar lines, although commercial types were harder to cash. In the broken mouth section there was a swift trade for Swaledales, especially the smarter sorts with £55 to £70 the range for these, recording an overall average of £49.

LEEMING FARM SALE - THURSDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER 2016

On Farm Sale by Kind Permission of DL Leeming Ltd at High Farm, Burnt Yates, Ripley. A well-attended sale from farmers and dealers from far and wide, the machinery was all in a very good condition and well maintained.

Jennings Farmers sells champion dairy heifer for £2,000 at Skipton Auction Mart Andrew Jennings, of Jennings Farmers, Fountains Abbey, emerged victorious at Skipton Auction Mart’s Craven Dairy Auction on Monday. (SEPT 26) Mr Jennings’ pedigree newly calven heifer topped the sale at £2,000 after being awarded the championship by judge Rob Marshall, of Dacre. The heifer, 28 days calved, giving 33 litres, boasted a good back pedigree, being by Carrock Shockwave, and was sold to Stephen and Eddie Jeanes, of Sutton-in-Craven.

Craven Dairy Auction (32 head) A victorious day for Andrew Jennings of Jennings Farmers, Fountains with his Pedigree Newly Calven Heifer topping at £2000 and taking the Craven Dairy Sale Championship at the late September sale. The heifer boasting a good back pedigree and giving 38ltrs went on to sell for £2000 to Stephen and Eddie Jeanes of Sutton In Craven.

Forward: 7,640 Head, Overall av £57.51 CCM Auctions fortnightly store lamb sale attracted a large company of buyers for a show of 7,640 head. Suffolk and Continental lambs were a sharp trade for all classes, strongest stores being mid to late 60’s, nice types either side of £60 and long keep ones in the mid 50’s.
