Skipton Auction Mart crowns November prime champions Jim and Christine Scrivin, of Park House Farm, Elslack, clinched Skipton Auction Mart’s November prime cattle championship with a 575kg British Blue-x steer which made 269.5p/kg, or £1,550, when selling to Ralph Pearson Wholesale Meats in Bradford. FORWARD: 221 Breeding Sheep & Rams. Today was the final Tuesday Sale for this season, and the sale was mainly taken up with rams. A good enquiry for Texel Shearling Rams with size and power, top price was £650 from S Breare of Silsden Moor who sold 7 in total to average £497.

North Craven breeders clinch top honours at Skipton Dalesbred highlight Two Dalesbred sheep aficionados from the breed’s recognised heartlands in North Craven, both farmers from Horton-in-Ribblesdale, stood champion and reserve at the Dalesbred Sheep Breeders’ Association’s final seasonal prize show and sale of rams and females at Skipton Auction Mart. ANNUAL SALE OF RIGISTERED DALESBRED SHEEP The winner of the Royston Baxter Trophy awarded for the Champion Dalesbred sheep was Michael Carr of Bracken Bottom with a John Bradley got shearling ram bred from a homebred ewe which sold to T&CM Kelsall & Sons of chipping for 450gns.

FORWARD: 908 Breeding Ewes & 29 Rams. A late season feel to the sale but still customers supporting good runs of Mule, Lleyn and Texel Shearlings. Hill ewe customers more selective with the highlight a run of sound 4 crop Cheviot ewes. Odd sheep losing a tooth averaging £91 and their 3 crop counter parts in the same conditions averaging £102.

Solid clearance rate and strong selling averages at CCM Skipton Swaledale rams highlight Skipton Auction Mart’s annual evening fixture for registered Swaledale rams attracted a tremendous turnout of 72 head, a dozen more than last year, recording an extremely high clearance rate and increased averages. Forward: 72 Registered Aged and Shearling Swaledale Rams A tremendous sale this year was seen for Swaledale Rams at Skipton with a very high clearance rate, seeing all 28 aged rams forward selling to a top of £1400 and a solid average of £539 each, whilst Shearlings sold to £1500, averaged £406.22 and an 85% clearance.
